Spring Break is finally here. Not to be too simple, but let’s celebrate what it really means. A break to celebrate the end of winter days or cooler weather and the celebration of the second season of the year, Spring!!

For many colleges and educational institutions across the country it is an anticipated week off from classes and a perfect time to travel to somewhere sunny and warm. For Arizona State University students it is right around the corner. Depending on what high school or college we are talking about NAU, U of A, March and April is the spring break time of the year. Everyone is looking to get away.

So what are you waiting for? Didn’t make any plans ahead of time? Wondering what to do with an entire week off? Well, don’t fear, here are 8 great ways to spend your Spring Break in Rocky Point.

1.    Take a Spring Break picture with a whale. Who has a Spring Break picture with a whale on the sand? ?You can, if you visit CEDO Intercultural study, offices located in Las Conchas. Check out a preserved unique whale skeleton available for viewing at the Intercultural Center for the Study of Deserts and Oceans (CEDO).  Free weekly Natural History Talks are offered Tuesday and Saturdays and ongoing tours and events throughout the month of March. Go to info@ cedointercultural.org.

2.    Experience a true beach day. You have many choices in Rocky Point. Here are two favorites: stop by Bella Sirena’s new swim up pool bar and eatery SWIM (open to outside guests) and have a resort beach day just like you would in Cabo, grab a lounge chair, swim up for your drink order and get waited on pool side. For those who like the warm sand between the toes and the sound of the water beckoning, grab a blanket or beach chair and claim your sandy spot outside Wrecked at the Reef cantina and restaurant directly on Sandy Beach. Here you can dip into the mesmerizing sea and when the urge calls you simply walk up the steps and have a cool libation or juicy appetizer.

3.    Speed and adventure your thing? Well, in Rocky Point there are several things that go high and fast: jet skis, ultra lights, parasailing, ATV’s and banana boats. Pick your level of adrenaline rush. Walk along Sandy Beach and you will see all activities available, even horseback riding for the slower journey.

4.    Check out the 3rd annual Grand Car show the first weekend of the month. Main event takes place at Peñasco del Sol recreation area with a car parade and live music at the car show. Contact Peñasco del Sol for details. Think baby Barrett Jackson.

5.    Grab your 4 leaf clover and celebrate St. Patty’s day, Mexican style. Who needs green beer? In Ireland they certainly don’t drink it, (it is an American tradition) but bring your green food coloring if you really need it. Anyway,Peñasco Palooza a live rock concert on the sand, will be held on Saturday, March 17thoutside of Changos Bar next to the Sonoran resorts. Musicians from legendary classic rock bands such as Steve Miller Band (Steve McCarty ) and Curly Smith (formerly of Boston) will be bringing an All Star rock band playing classic rock music you will know and love. This is a Spring Break must! Attending a concert on the sand, is a fabulous way to spend a night at the beach. Tickets can be purchased online at www.homeofthebraveconcerts.com.

6.    Experience some Thunder on the Beach In Rocky Point. Not talking about thunder, lighting and rain storms, or mosquitoes, Rocky Point is fortunate enough to only have a minimal bit of rain and really no mosquitoes like other beach towns. This Spring Break, on March 24th a Monster Truck night show will be held by The Reef on Sandy Beach. Another 2 day event is scheduled for April. Check out www.thunderonthebeach.mx. for more information on sand drags, monster car shows and racing.

7.    Need a little art and culture? Explore the Farmers Market/Art Expo located behind Don Julio’s on Fremont Blvd. every Saturday in March. Admission is free, offering an excellent fashion to fill a Saturday morning or afternoon. Experience local art and community products.

8.    Attend an All Day Sail Fest. Bring your camera.  Shutterbugs will be busy snapping amazing pics of Hobie cats and other sailboats skimming across the glistening Sea of Cortez. Sail Fest is happening in front of Playa Bonita March 31- April 1st. All watercraft welcome.Spring time in March in Mexico means perfect indoor/outdoor weather, slight breezes, warm sand, bright blue sky, sparkling diamonds on the Sea of Cortez and near perfect conditions to take a break watching boats float by.

Rocky Point is the perfect spring break destination. It’s close to Phoenix or Tucson, safe drive and border and you can plan at the last minute. Condos and hotels are still available and there is enough sunshine for all visitors. So defrost that swimsuit and enjoy an easy and affordable Spring Break beach retreat.
