Picture a Norman Rockwell painting of people bundled up and Christmas caroling. That is close to what St. Joseph’s Church in La Cholla will offer at its Christmas Concert on Sunday, Dec. 19 at 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the church – minus the snow!

In 2018 and 2019, the mission church presented a bilingual concert of Christmas hymns, to help people remember the “reason for the season.” The concert was not offered last year because Covid restrictions would have limited attendance to around 30 people; but with an outdoor venue, families can gather and celebrate in safety.

The concert will combine the talents of past St. Joseph’s Christmas Choir members and the choir from Holy Family Parish, along with the guitar and vocals of their pastor Padre Marco Lopez and other solos and duets.

The concert will conclude with a Christmas Carol style sing-along.

Admission will be free, and cocoa, coffee and cookies will be served after the event. Attendees need to bring their own chairs. Jackets and blankets are recommended, though the average temperature is 65 degrees during that time of year.

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church offers the only bilingual Mass in Puerto Peñasco, each Sunday morning at 8:30. The church is available for all Catholic sacraments.

To reach St. Joseph’s, take the paved road past the Sandy Beach Resorts and the dirt road past Wrecked at the Reef. As you wind toward Cholla Bay, the church is on the right and clearly marked. With the parking lot serving as the auditorium, attendees are asked to find parking off the main road on nearby streets.
