Normally we write about the off-road racing in and around Rocky Point, but this time we were asked to check out the celebration at MareBlu Risorante on Sandy Beach next to the Reef. What a joy this experience was! Owner Julio Valenzuela and manager Ernesto make all who arrive welcome and appreciated. At the door, the hostess, Melissa, greets everyone with a beautiful smile and escorts you to the table of your choice, inside or out on the patio. The unobstructed view of the ocean is at its best from any seat.

The bartender, Ignacio aka “Nacho” learned his trade in the U.S. I don’t think you could ask for a drink he doesn’t know how to make.

The waiters are Alfredo, Miguel, Alan, Ernesto, Valentine and Jorge. What an energetic group these guys are. All have matching uniforms and look very professional.

The Chef, Victor Gutierrez was sous Chef for the Iron Chef winner in 2011. Now, Miguel Angel Morales is the sous chef in this highly organized kitchen.

My meal was Chicken Marsala, smothered in mushrooms, herbs and spices with a side of penne pasta. Debby had Blackened Mahi Mahi and Shrimp over a bed of vegetables with rigatoni pasta. The green salad to start with was on a chilled plate with Italian Balsamic dressing. The entrée was served on a heated plate and beautifully presented. Everything was delicious and very memorable! How we managed to eat a slice of birthday cake after all this seems impossible, but it was so good! They home- make all their pasta, breads and desserts. The bread was served with an interesting tomato based whipped butter, unbelievably good!

We spoke to several diners, including Harriet & Michael from the Phoenix area, about their meal. “We’re thrilled with the food here, excellent flounder and lobster dishes.” They visit Rocky Point two or three times a year and are very glad this restaurant is here and open.

Do you have some food allergies or special diet requests? Afraid to try something for fear you’ll have a reaction? It’s not a problem here! Just ask the chef to address your issue and he will create a meal to your ease and enjoyment.

We spoke to two couples who said the food here compared to the best in Boston, where they were from. They showed us one dish that MareBlu created for them, just how they wanted it. They really appreciate the special service.

Herber & Paulina, supply the music with Herber on the piano, guitar and vocals and Paulina singing. We heard easy listening popular songs from the past from groups like the Beatles, Eagles & BeeGees. Great background music while dining.

If you are still with us, you are probably thinking this place is expensive, what with white tablecloths and cloth napkins, but you’d be wrong! The most expensive meal on the menu is $20.00! All others are less and the prices include the tax. Along with cash, Visa and MasterCard are accepted. Another couple of things we were impressed with; all the waiters were proficient in English, and they make everyone feel comfortable and right at home.

It is worth the drive. Come out on Sandy Beach next to the Reef and be pleasantly surprised, like we were. We are going back for sure. They are open daily 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Reservations (011-52-638) 383-0605. See their ad in the Rocky Point Times. Visit their web site at www.mareblurockypoint.com
