In March Rotary members met at “Nuevos Comienzos”, the kindergarten school to launch a “water awareness” campaign on “World Water Day”. This activity is an initiative of Rotary International and is a perfect segway to the grand opening of our Rotary Sponsored water purification plant located on Luis Encinas. This facility is a result of a Rotary global grant and a partnership with Oomapas and allows us the ability to deliver fresh drinking water to all of our communities’ elementary schools.

Our Club is already busy planning next year’s 2024 Rotary District Conference which will be held here. Oscar Palacio and Loly Monteverde recently attended a conference in Ensenada to present an invitation to this district conference. When Peñasco hosts this conference in 2024 it will be a two district, two country conference with our district 4100 and District 5495 from Arizona. It will be a big deal and with many attendees visiting Puerto Peñasco for the first time.

Again, this year we will host and interact with a group from Heber Valley, Utah. This is a group of high school students that will spend this Spring Break working on service projects in our community. This group has been here several times and it is always a treat to work with these young people dedicated to service above self!

Our club was recently able to assist the Bomberos with a donation of two computers. These computers will assist the fire department’s communication when their vehicles are dispatched. The Rocky Point Bomberos, due to a Rotary connection, are also in contact with the Mesa, Arizona Fire Department and are coordinating future donations. Services above self and developing partnerships that benefit all concurred fit the mission of being a Rotarian.

Recently the local Red Cross presented our Rotary Club with a certificate of appreciation. Our Rotary Club has a strong partnership with the Red Cross. We have assisted their needs thru globe grants to provide materials and equipment. We have partnered with them to feed the homeless and transient population and have shared donations received by both of us. If you haven’t toured the Red Cross lately, I encourage you to do so. The facility has been remodeled and is lovely. The Red Cross is a great resource for all visitors.

Just a reminder if you want to get involved in more volunteer work join us on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday at 4pm at the Friendly Dolphin Restaurant or come to a Rotary meeting at 9am Wednesday also at the friendly Dolphin! Hope to see you soon!
