We Give Thanks for Those Who Give

This month’s article is about Thanks-Giving. Not the Plymouth Rock-Native American-Pilgrim celebration we learned about in elementary school. And not the food-fest that has us all changing into sweatpants after dinner and swearing we’ll never eat like that again. This is about thanking all who have supported our program this year and asking you to remember Barb’s Dog Rescue during this month of thankfulness.

Like Blanche DuBois from A Streetcar Named Desire, Barb’s Dog Rescue is very much “dependent on the kindness of strangers”. From those who adopt…From those who volunteer… From those who donate… From the generosity of our sponsors. We could not continue to serve and care for the dogs of Rocky Point without you, and we give thanks daily for your help.

Giving Tuesday

The Tuesday following Thanksgiving has been set aside as the International Day of Giving. Giving Tuesday, frequently referred to as #GivingTuesday, is a global movement started in 2012. It is meant to focus on the support of charities as we head into the holiday season. We urge you to go to www.barbsdogrescue.org when you make your donation on Tuesday, November 29. Your gift, large or small, will help us help so many.

Select Barb’s Dog Rescue as Your

Philanthropy of Choice on Amazon Smile

Here is a way you can easily donate to Barb’s Rescue even if you are far away. If you order from Amazon, simply order from AmazonSmile. You get the same prices and items, the only difference being that a portion of every purchase goes to the charity of your choice. You have to “register” with AmazonSmile first and choose your charity – type in Barb’s Dog Rescue – and you’re all set. If you have the Amazon Shopping app, you can add AmazonSmile to your app – it’s in your settings – that way you don’t have to switch between websites or platforms. Barbs has a Wish List as well and you can order items and have them shipped to our board members.

Canned food is always in short supply here, as we cannot purchase it locally. Getting large orders from the U.S. is impossible, so we rely on our generous supporters to help. Your orders from our AmazonSmile Wish List directs Amazon to ship your purchase to one of our board members, who then arranges for transport to the Rescue or to the Why Not Travel Store in Why, Arizona. This also allows visitors to Rocky Point to pick up food and transport it to us. We use over 60 cans each day to feed the underweight, nursing mamas and hungry puppies. If you have not already selected a philanthropy on AmazonSmile, please consider Barb’s. This costs you nothing and benefits us greatly.

Meet Freya

Can you remember the last time a dog caught hold of your heart? It’s likely not everyone Freya encountered in her life on the streets treated her kindly. Her eyes tell the story. She was a great mama to her puppies, and now it’s time for Freya to have her chance for a home of her own. She has been spayed and had all the necessary vaccinations to cross the border. For adoption information email barbsdogrescue@gmail.com, or come meet Freya or any of the other 350+ dogs in our care any day from 10 am to 2 pm.

November reminds us of the importance of being thankful for our blessings. It also suggests there is nothing more gratifying than sharing your blessings through giving.

Here is Taco. He is 6 years old chihuahua mix.
This is Gem. She is about 3-4 years old. She is the sweetest dog you will meet! Gen has a deformed back legs but this does not stop her! She can get around just fine!
Adam was dumped at the rescue about a month ago. Adam is 5 months old and has issues with his back legs. This is something that could be helped with surgery. We hope that the right people will meet Adam and decide to help him be the best dog he can be. He is just a baby and now is the time to treat him.
