Wow!!! Is all I can say about the overwhelming response of amazing sunset photos sent in to enter in our 2014 Rocky Point Times Sunset Photo Contest. There were over one hundred entries and most of the photographs were simply spectacular! One thing is for sure…Rocky Point is one, amazing beach town! The process of sorting through the photos was rather lengthy but rewarding to see all of the colors, photo angles, cloud coverage, water hues and overall beauty of our Sea of Cortez. After narrowing down the photos to 10 finalists, my distinguished panel of judges (well, ok, it was not that distinguished if I was on the judging panel!) selected the top 3 winners. Several times we resorted two of the photos to choose our First Place winner and our Second Place Winner. But as luck would have it, two photos repeatedly tied for First Place in Votes, so I decided to have two First Place Winners and a Runner-Up Prize for the Third Place Winner.

The Photo Contest Winners can pick up their prizes directly from the Rocky Point Times office located just off Calle 13, (Turn west off main Blvd @ Marlin, turn left @ second OXXO, turn right down in to the parking area under the tall palms) across from Happy Face Massage. You can email Alicia at rockypointtimes@yahoo.com for more specific instructions to pick up your prize. Thank you again goes out to Lagunitas Brewing Company and Paddock/Cameo Pools for their amazing generosity and WAY COOL prize baskets that they put together for the champions. When you have an opportunity, please remember to support our sponsors and throw back a few Lagunitas beers and pop into Paddock/Cameo to see what’s new and to shop for all of your pool supplies and beach goodies. The first of the First Place Winners into the Rocky Point Times can choose from either the Lagunitas basket or the Paddock/Cameo basket so…the race is on! The Third Place Winner receives a nice wine basket from a kind beach dude I know. All three winners receive a year’s subscription to the Rocky Point Times and I will let my kind bosses at the Rocky Point Times choose which of the First Place Winners receives their photo on the cover of the next, coveted Rocky Point Times edition…although my suggestion is…ahem…CHOOSE ONE FOR AUGUST AND ONE FOR SEPTEMBER. So, now we can sound the alarm and let the drum roll begin…AND THE WINNERS OF THE

2014 Rocky Point Times Sunset Photo Contest are:

*Third Place Winner: Kathy Willits of Rocky Point, Mexico

*First Place Winner: Erin Poturalski of Rocky Point, Mexico

*First Place Winner: Gail Feeney of Rocky Point, Mexico

(Winners, please send original photos to Attn: Alicia rockypointtimes@yahoo.com. Photos MUST be at least 300dpi and 2MB)

Congratulations to our winners and if you could see what I have seen come across my computer, I want to thank everyone for the outstanding bunch of sunset photos anyone can ask for. A special shout out to the following people whose photos were in the running for which you receive the Rocky Point Times Sunset Photo Contest Honorable Mention Award: Mo Velasquez, Sharon Yee, David Moore, Patrick Mondone, Amanda Miller and Ryan Loebe for his Brothers at Sunset Photo. I did find it interesting that all three of our winners live here in Rocky Point. Is it because they have more opportunities to have more sunset photos? Is it because they know how to capture a beautiful moment when they see one? Is it because they are blessed to know some of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico and in the world? Is it because they took a chance and believed in themselves? I would say yes to each of these questions. No doubt, the more you are in Rocky Point, the more opportunities you have for amazing sunset photos!
Until next month, may the sunset always cast a warm glow over your shoulders and may you always be surrounded with good friends, good times and good cheer! Adios Amigos! God Bless and “Seas The Day”! And, wherever you go, Go with All Your Heart! Marco
