Little St. Joseph’s Chapel is maturing – and so are the servers and ministers who assist at the bilingual Mass every Sunday at 9 a.m. So, after watching a few folks struggle, Sexton Bob Keller set about to have two railings installed, one on each side of the altar.

The metal fabrication was done by our good friends and frequent supporters at Cholla Bay Powder Coat. They then powder-coated them in a complementary color and attached the wooden rail that our sexton prepared.

Though OSHA regulations do not apply here, we have made an effort to accommodate those with mobility challenges. Handicapped parking and ramps to the entry are not up to U.S. code, but they certainly help those who use walkers or wheelchairs.

Because of the traffic and noise in Choya during Semana Santa (Holy Week), the full Triduum will not be celebrated at the Chapel. Those who want to participate in those observations can attend at Holy Family, our parish. However, St. Joseph’s will pray the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday, at 4 p.m. in the Chapel.

The Stations of the Cross allow us to walk with Jesus on that torturous day, feeling His pain, along with the pain of His mother, Veronica, Simon, and countless believers who witnessed His last hours.

At each of the 14 stations, we read a beautiful text that gives that stage of the journey a modern-day perspective. It helps us to better relate to the suffering and sacrifice that Jesus made to show us the way, and to open the doors of eternal life for us.

If you are in Rocky Point, plan to take that walk with us. It takes us less than 30 minutes, and it really helps to illuminate the true significance of Easter and the love we’ve been shown; join us for our bilingual Easter Sunday Mass at 9 a.m.

To reach St. Joseph’s, take the paved road past the Sandy Beach Condos and the dirt road past Wrecked at the Reef. As you wind toward Cholla Bay, the Chapel is on the right and clearly marked.
