(City of Puerto Peñasco Press Release, May 2012)
The connectivity between commercial flights for Hermosillo, Las Vegas and Puerto Peñasco with Aero Mexico will, hopefully, soon become a reality for visitors wishing to come here to enjoy the natural beauty that it is offered here in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora Mexico. This is what our Mayor Alejandro Zepeda Munro sustained in a meeting with the Executive Director of the airline, Sergio Alonso Allard Barroso, and Juan Nicolas Rhoads Fontanot who is the Director of Commercial Planning. Accompanied by the Coordinator of Tourism Encouragement in Sonora, Javier Tapia Camou, and also from the OCV (Tourism) offices, Hector Vazquez, our Mayor stated that he is very grateful that the flights will be now coming to our International Airport Mar de Cortez.
Javier Tapia Camou said that Aero México has plans to extend their reach, and are considering this tourist destination as an opportunity to connect Rocky Point with Hermosillo and Las Vegas. They are now working on analyzing the project and, in about a week, they should have a concrete answer. They explained that they are looking for commercial flight connections, apart from the charter flights we now have coming in, and hoping this idea will come to fruition, benefiting the city of Rocky Point with a great flow of tourism, both national and international, and boosting the economy. They (city officials), are currently working with various charter companies such as “VivaAerobus” to also have charter flights, beginning this summer, from Ciudad Juarez.
Mayor Zepeda Munro pointed out the City’s interest and ambition to support this great measure, to be able to meet the criteria to have these types of flights for this city. They have agreed to work diligently with government officials, in a coordinated manner, to make this a reality for our tourists and visitors.
