What began as a commitment to a small group of families has grown into an organization serving children through specialized education, therapeutic services, vocational development, and programs that encourage greater independence.

And this year, as Fundación Educarte celebrates its 10th anniversary, that journey has reached another meaningful milestone: welcoming its youngest students yet. Our board listened closely to the needs of our community, and for the first time in the organization’s history, preschool-age children with special needs have a classroom created especially for them.

The opening of the preschool at Escuela de Victoria represents something families in Puerto Peñasco have long needed: the opportunity to begin specialized education early, in an environment where each child can feel safe, understood, and supported.

For these young students, their first classroom experiences may look different from those in a traditional preschool. Progress can be found in learning a new routine, communicating a need, sitting alongside a classmate, gaining confidence in a new environment, or discovering a new way to participate. These moments may appear small, but for a child and their family, they can be extraordinary.

The preschool is also the latest chapter in a much larger story of community. Fundación Educarte operates as a Mexican nonprofit organization, or an Asociación Civil, bringing together philanthropy, family participation, community partnerships, and programs that help strengthen the organization for the future. Support comes in many forms: from private donors who believe in the mission, to families participating in educational and therapeutic services, to local residents supporting Educarte’s community initiatives.

Over the years, that approach has allowed the organization to continue growing alongside the needs of the families it serves. Today, Escuela de Victoria provides specialized education for students with special needs, while CATI Clinic offers therapeutic services to children and families throughout the community.

Educarte has also looked beyond the classroom to create opportunities for its young adults. Initiatives such as El Comedero Azul provide a welcoming community space while creating opportunities to develop practical and vocational skills. Mercado Azul brings together local entrepreneurs, families, and neighbors, creating another way for the community to gather around and participate in Educarte’s mission.

Each initiative is different, but they share a common purpose: creating a more inclusive community where individuals with special needs have opportunities at every stage of life. That same spirit made the new preschool possible.

With support from the Turnbow Foundation, The Duncan Family Foundation, and Victory Foundation, Educarte was able to prepare and furnish its first preschool classroom, creating a space intentionally designed for its youngest scholars.

There is something particularly special about seeing children enter that classroom for the first time. For Fundación Educarte, it represents how far the organization has come in ten years. For parents, it represents a place where their child can begin their educational journey surrounded by people who recognize their individual strengths and needs. And for the community, it represents what is possible when people come together around a shared belief that every child deserves the opportunity to learn and belong.

As Educarte enters its second decade, the vision continues to grow. The goal is not simply to serve more children. It is to continue building a pathway that can support individuals and their families through different stages of life, from those very first preschool experiences, through education and therapy, and eventually toward vocational opportunities and greater independence.

This year, that pathway begins a little earlier, increasing a child’s opportunity to thrive. Inside a new preschool classroom in Puerto Peñasco, some of Educarte’s smallest scholars are taking their first steps into school.

For an organization celebrating ten years of impact, there may be no better way to begin the next ten. If you are interested in getting involved, or just learning more about the work that we do locally, please visit us at https://fundacioneducarte.com.mx/
