A Decade of Purpose: Educarte Celebrates Certification, 10 Years of Impact, and a New Chapter of Inclusion
This year marks an extraordinary milestone for Fundación Educarte as the organization celebrates its 10th anniversary, a decade dedicated to expanding opportunities for children and young adults with disabilities through education, inclusion, and community.
The celebration is made even more meaningful by another significant achievement: Educarte has officially earned national certification as a private assistance institution. A distinction that recognizes the organization’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and excellence in serving the community. This certification reflects years of dedication by educators, staff, volunteers, partners, donors, and families who have worked together to build a program rooted in dignity, compassion, and hope. We are especially proud to share that Educarte is the first and only certified school serving students with disabilities in the state of Sonora.
Over the past ten years, Educarte has grown into much more than a school. It is a community where children and young adults with disabilities are empowered to discover their strengths, build confidence, and develop the skills needed for greater independence. From individualized educational programs and physical therapy through the CATI Clinic to life skills instruction and vocational training, Educarte continues to expand opportunities that help every student thrive.
That vision is now coming to life in exciting new ways. One of Educarte’s newest initiatives is El Comedor Azul, a traditional Mexican kitchen that serves as both a community restaurant and a hands-on vocational training program. Open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., El Comedor Azul offers freshly prepared breakfast and lunch while providing young adults with disabilities the opportunity to build workplace, communication, customer service, and independent living skills through real-world experience.
Under the guidance of their instructor, students welcome guests, take orders, serve meals, and provide exceptional hospitality, while demonstrating the talents, dedication, and professionalism they bring to the workplace every day.
Community members can also support the program by purchasing a prepaid meal card for 600 pesos, which includes five meals plus a complimentary Saturday meal. Every visit helps create meaningful pathways to employment, continued education, and greater independence for Educarte’s students.
Educarte has also expanded its campus with the launch of Azul Market (Mercadito Azul), a vibrant, family-friendly evening market designed to bring the community together while supporting local entrepreneurs and advancing the foundation’s mission.
Held every other Friday and Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Azul Market features approximately 50 local vendors, a lively food row, artisan crafts, shopping, and a dedicated children’s area. Admission is free, making it an inviting destination for families, residents, and visitors alike.
The next decade promises even greater impact. With national certification, innovative vocational programs, and a growing network of community support, Educarte continues to demonstrate that when we invest in opportunity, nurture ability, and create spaces where everyone belongs, entire communities thrive.
