Every November, the streets of Puerto Peñasco come alive with the sights and sounds of one of Mexico’s most cherished traditions: the commemoration of the Mexican Revolution. From colorful traditional attire and lively music to school performances and civic parades, the celebration brings families, students, and neighbors together to honor the country’s rich history and cultural heritage.

This year, however, the festivities will hold an especially meaningful place in the hearts of the Fundación Educarte community.

For the first time in its history, Escuela de Victoria will participate in Puerto Peñasco’s civic parade on November 16th.

For many schools, participating in a community parade is a familiar annual tradition. For the students, families, and educators at Escuela de Victoria, this first appearance represents another important step toward creating a more inclusive community, one where children with special needs have the opportunity to participate, contribute, and celebrate alongside their peers.

More Than a Parade

At Escuela de Victoria, a special education program of Fundación Educarte, learning extends far beyond textbooks and classroom walls.

Every new experience presents an opportunity for students to develop confidence, practice social skills, strengthen communication, and discover new abilities. Participating in a public celebration offers a different kind of learning environment, one filled with excitement, movement, music, and community connection.

Moments like these remind us that inclusion is not simply about providing access to education or specialized services. It is also about ensuring that individuals with disabilities have opportunities to be visible, valued, and actively involved in the communities they call home.

A Celebration of Mexican Traditions

The public is invited to join us on Friday, November 20th, beginning at 6:00 p.m., as the festivities continue, for a special kermés commemorating the Mexican Revolution.

What is a kermés?

For those unfamiliar with the tradition, a kermés is a festive community gathering often organized by schools, featuring cultural performances, family activities, and opportunities for neighbors to come together. This year’s celebration promises an evening filled with Mexican pride, creativity, and plenty of reasons to cheer.

Students will take center stage through singing, traditional dances, folkloric clothing parades, and other performances inspired by Mexican culture. Adding a little friendly excitement to the evening, there will also be an award recognizing the best performance of the night.

While the music, costumes, and presentations will undoubtedly bring smiles to the audience, the true celebration lies in the opportunities these experiences create for the students.

For some, stepping onto a stage may represent newfound confidence. For others, participating in a dance or group presentation may reflect weeks of practicing routines, following instructions, or learning to work alongside classmates.

Every student brings different strengths, and every accomplishment deserves recognition.

Ten Years of Creating Opportunities

As Fundación Educarte celebrates its tenth anniversary, milestones like these reflect the organization’s continued commitment to children and young adults with special needs in Puerto Peñasco.

Through Escuela de Victoria, therapeutic services, vocational training, and community initiatives, Educarte works to create opportunities that support students at different stages of their development.

This academic year has already marked a particularly exciting chapter with the opening of the school’s first preschool classroom, welcoming its youngest scholars into an environment designed to support their individual learning needs.

Now, as students prepare to join the civic parade and share their talents during the November kermés, the organization continues to demonstrate that meaningful education includes opportunities to participate in everyday community life.

A Community Where Everyone Belongs

The beauty of traditions is that they bring generations together. They connect us to our history, strengthen our relationships, and remind us of the importance of belonging.

We hope you’ll join us in cheering on the students of Escuela de Victoria during their first civic parade and supporting them at the November 20 kermés.

Because a truly inclusive community is one where everyone has a place in the celebration.
