After a very successful Tacos & Tequila FUNdraiser this past July, Empty Bowls continues on its mission to help address the food insecurities with our neighbors here in Puerto Peñasco. Our next FUNdraiser will be held on September 24th from 5-8 pm at the El Mirador Hotel. This fun event will (for just $10) feature grilled burgers, potato salad, watermelon, and a delightful and cooling milkshake bar (extra charge), with virgin and boozy milkshakes available. We also have the hotel pool for cooling off, corn hole games, raffles, and fun merchandise for sale, as well as the beach and the beautiful Sea of Cortez just off the covered picnic area.
After that event, we will really be gearing up for our big 2nd Annual Event on November 29th, being held at Borracho Cantina. Be sure to get your tickets early to this special event to be sure you don’t miss out! You will be able to get your tickets online at www.emptybowls-puertopenasco.com or at The Turquoise Door in Plaza de San Miguel on Avenida Sinaloa across from Hotel Playa Inn. In the meantime, please watch our Facebook page to get updates on our work with Banco de Alimentos (Puerto Peñasco’s local food bank) and DIF. We give monthly donations to the food bank from the funds that are raised throughout the year. The food bank, in turn, does the staples shopping for the food that we then help hand out at DIF (Department of Infants and Families). If you are interested in helping, contact us to see about volunteering. We are always looking for volunteers, as is the food bank. In fact, we are really interested in helping to find a volunteer coordinator who can coordinate with the food bank to help find more volunteers for the food they independently pass out to local families in need, six days a week. Spanish-speaking would be ideal, but not absolutely required. Message us on Facebook or on our website, if you are interested in giving back to your community in this way.
Lastly, remember that there are times in all of our lives when we need help, and Empty Bowls is working to try to make those times easier for some of our neighbors. We are neighbors helping neighbors.
