¡Feliz Diciembre, Rocky Point! I sure hope your holiday season is coming along great, and you haven’t stuffed yourself too much from Thanksgiving. After all, we have to be in our swimsuits here at the beach 😊! These past 2 months have been a whirlwind for me, travelling all over to see family and friends. I recently made a trip to the U.S. to the south to see the Ole Miss Rebs play. It was super fun, nothing like the college football experience in the SEC and America. It reminds me of the soccer fever that grips Mexico and many other nations when they play in an international game against other countries.

Shout out to the great burger I had recently at Salt & Lime by Latitude 31…. it was soooo good! And, OMG, I can’t forget to give thanks to my awesome friend CP for an amazing condo remodel that is just about complete after a year of planning, building, ordering and constructing. It really is looking fabulous, thank you, CP!!! In late October, my sister Vickie and her husband Eduardo came down from North Carolina to visit my new digs and check out the growth in Rocky Point so this article will feature their input on what they thought of our (I used to say quaint town) or small city, but I find it more appropriate to just leave it at city….. with the small-town charm 😊.

Marco~ I know you have been to Mexico several times before but wanted to hear about your first impressions of Rocky Point?

Vickie~ Well, I would say my first impression was how serene everything was. I realize we were out a bit from town, but it was so peaceful out at Encantame Towers. I really loved that everywhere we went, everyone was super nice and friendly, and I can totally see why you love it in Rocky Point so much. I must say the views were just incredible…. I got up to see the sunrise and watched the sunsets, and I thought it was amazing to see all the way to Baja California!

Eduardo~ Well, driving to Rocky Point was an adventure in itself…. between Marco and Ronnie trying to break the sound barrier. I have circled the globe in my travels, and I swear we did it faster on the way to Rocky Point other than Ronnie’s 72-bathroom breaks. Now, the desert is nice, but you can only see so many cacti before you are asking…. are we there yet? But once we got to the towers and grounds, it was fabulous…the Sea of Cortez is breathtaking! I stopped feeling sorry for the armadillo we ran over on the way down 😊.

Marco~ Lots ‘o laughs Eduardo but yes, I agree with you both. I routinely feel so blessed to have the views that we do. Sometimes, I am so busy laughing and socializing with friends and playing cards, I suddenly look up and I am wowed by the pristine views we all share! How did the beaches in Rocky Point compare to the beaches in North Carolina?

Vickie~ In Wrightsville Beach, it can be a bit touristy, especially at certain times of the year. It is so nice to have the beach more to yourself. I found the beach more peaceful.  The sand is coarser here in Rocky Point than the Carolina beaches but maybe that is because of the tides.

Marco~ Yes, this is true… I have read that we have one of the largest tidal surges in the world… twice a day and front to back! What were some of your favorite restaurants?

Eduardo~ Well, there is Wingman, and what a colorful bunch of employees and patrons! And I really liked the pizza at Capone’s as it reminded me of the pizza from New York. Plus, you get to pose for pictures with Al out front. You know it is good when the locals are eating at your restaurant!

Vickie~ I agree…I loved the wings at Wingman. They were some of the best wings I have had in a long time! I really enjoyed Francesca, Luis, Caesar and the whole bunch of employees at Wingman. We ordered limoncello shots for Marco’s birthday and they didn’t have any, but Caesar came up with his own limoncello, and it was awesome! We really loved the views at El Capitan and yes, we all enjoyed our time with Al, the statue in front of Capones!

Marco~ So what do you think guys, stay a bit longer next time? 😊

Vickie~ For sure! I must say we really enjoyed the drive as well and learning about the different parts of the desert and how certain cacti will only grow at a particular elevation. And I can’t forget Ronnie’s driving abilities!

Marco~ Yeah, I hear he’s ready for Indianapolis! How did Rocky Point compare to some of your other vacation spots you have been to around the world?

Eduardo~ Some people in the states are afraid to go to Mexico. I would not be afraid to return to Puerto Penasco. The people I met were nice and friendly and not just the people in the resort. Wherever we went in town, everyone was super nice. Would I buy a condo in Penasco? Yes, in a minute if I lived in Scottsdale but we live in North Carolina so the distance would be a bit of a problem. I hope the friends I made there continue to enjoy it and don’t fret Ronnie and Jimmy, we will return soon!!!

Vickie~ Oh my gosh, yes, we will return for a longer stay. Rocky Point is so scenic and spectacular. The views at Encantame Towers were amazing and so were all the friends we met. It is so nice that the town is growing up so much. I also found the quality of engineering and the roof top pools to be outstanding. We really enjoyed Scott, Cathy, Jolene, Misty, Tomas, Ronnie, Jimmy and the rest of the crew! I also wanted to point out the array of shells and sea glass that is abundant on the beaches. You asked me to find you a cool shell on my walk, and I found a heart-shaped piece of coral…it was perfect!

Marco~ Ahhh, and I have it on display! Well, as they say (whoever they are) BRING IT ON!!! I cannot wait for your return and to really plan some more special days at other restaurants, bars, shopping places and other fun attractions around town.

HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON ALL! And remember, travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer!!!

ADIOS AMIGOS
GOD BLESS

Marco
