It was great to escape the summer heat rash season in Peñasco, but come Fall, Puerto Peñasco is where I want to be. I plan my trips with the Tide Chart Calendar for the Upper Sea of Cortez, Puerto Peñasco/San Felipe. The best two weeks for fishing out of a kayak are the two neap tides during the month (the smaller tides).

My summer escape included an Alaska Fly Fishing adventure to Good News Bay, Alaska the last week of August. The weather forecast was 60 degrees, rain, rain, and more rain, with periods of amazing amounts of Silver Salmon being caught. My friends at Playa De Oro RV Park were excited to hear about my trip to Alaska. It means a grilled salmon dinner in their future.

I recently had a few friends over for cedar-planked salmon. Served with a pineapple chunked, white wine, pineapple marmalade jalapeño glaze drizzled over it. The grilled veggies, and rice complemented the meal, and a white sangria was also a nice treat.

The white sangria goes well with fish. Here is a list of ingredients if the idea is appealing to you:

  1. 750ml bottle of white wine (I used Pino Grigio)
  2. 1/2 C of Mango Rum
  3. ½ C sugar
  4. Seasonal fruit – sliced orange, apple, lemon, lime, peach (select your favorites, have fun)

Plan ahead and make the sangria one day ahead and refrigerate – the flavors improve during the chill. Just before serving top off with a 20 oz. bottle of Sprite to give that fresh effervescence bubble kick. Have a few extra glasses and the neighbors will be curious about what everyone is giggling about.
