This last month, our club has been very busy completing the interior of the house that was built by our friends from Utah. We have been painting and installing a bathroom, along with furnishing the house. We had a lot of fun working together to complete this project, and thanks to the benevolence of so many of our community members and my friends, we were able to collect some furniture and household goods so the family would be able to move in and be comfortable in their new casa. We recently were able to turn the house over to this family of five, and what a wonderful feeling it was to see the big smiles on their faces and the enormous gratitude they expressed. The Rotary Club from Heber, Utah, along with some very dynamic young people, would like to build two houses next year, and it looks like this will be an ongoing annual project. This is just another example of one of the ways that Rocky Point benefits from having a local Rotary Club. We have so many connections all over Mexico, the United States, and Canada, and these connections bring many benefits to our community.

This is also the time of the year we say goodbye to our Rotary exchange students. This year, our exchange students were from Germany, Belgium, and Taiwan. It is always such a treat to work with these young people; to share culture, traditions, and hope for the future. Each of these students gave a final presentation, and I might add in Spanish…They are so smart! We then treated them to a picnic at the estuary as a little going-away party…We do this every year when we ask the students what they liked best about Mexico and their experience here this year. The answers ranged from the food to just the sense of family, and being a part of that family was very special to them. Our special thanks and heartfelt gratitude go out to the host families that opened up their homes to these young people for the past year. What experiences and wonderful memories will you always have from this connection you have made?

As the dog days of summer begin, many people will be traveling, some to cooler climates and some to other countries. Our Rotary Club wants to wish ALL of you safe journeys. We look forward to seeing everybody back in Puerto Peñasco in September! Be safe and be happy…Until we meet again!

At the end of June, we held our annual business meeting to make sure we were in compliance with all the Rotary regulations. We also have an extensive treasury report that gives us an idea of how much money we have to work with next year as we plan our projects. On June 24, we hosted the installation of the new Rotary board, and they will start on July 1, 2026. Under the leadership of Lucy Bustamante/president, I’m sure there will be great things to come next year.

We would love to expand our membership to include individuals who have never been a Rotarian or Rotarians who would like to transfer their membership to Rocky Point. Come to one of our meetings and check us out…” Service Above Self is a wonderful way to live!
