I want to begin by wishing everyone in the Rocky Point community a very Happy New Year. It’s the hope of the Puerto Peñasco Rotary Club that 2025 is filled with happiness and peace for everyone.

I am very happy to report the results of our polio plus dinner after all the bills were paid the profit, thanks to all of you wonderful supporters, was $25,000 USD. A portion of this money will go to the Polio Plus initiative to stop the spread of this dreaded disease around the world, and the rest of the money will be used locally to improve the quality of life in our community. We will be working on several initiatives, including the opening of the dialysis center.

Our Rotary has been very active this fall and just last December 7th we distributed eyeglasses to all the people that were screened and tested in our vision clinic. Our club participated in a beach cleanup, and we also celebrated with our friends at Casa Hogar with a Christmas party for all the residents. Our club also donated several cleaning supplies as well as warm jackets and shoes, but I think the best part was sharing a meal with the residents of Casa Hogar and singing Christmas carols. A great time was had by all!

In 2025 we will continue to enjoy our exchange students. They will be with us until the summer, and it has been great fun planning activities for them. Our club has a very strong program in this area and recently hosted an orientation for interested students who would like to be part of this exchange. Our four exchange students, two from Germany, one from Belgium, and one from Denmark are enjoying the warm Mexican culture they are being exposed to and at the same time, we are learning a lot about each of their home countries from them.

Our next big event we will be planning is the “Fish Bowl”. This event will take place on February 8th in the shrimp park. We will have several restaurants involved and participants can sample all of the very unique cuisines that exist in Rocky Point. So, mark your calendars for this date – it is always the Saturday before the Super Bowl. There will be a lot of activities going on that day and it proves to be a wonderful time. We hope to see you there again supporting the efforts of our local Rotary club.

As I’ve said so many times if you’d like to be a part of our Rotary Club or even learn more about what we do, please join us at a weekly meeting. We meet every Wednesday at the Puesta del Sol Restaurant at Playa Bonita. The meetings are at 9 o’clock in the morning. If you prefer, just give me a call and I can fill you in on what it means to be a Rotarian my number is 480-612-5783 being a part of Rotary is a great way to get things done…Service above self is a wonderful way to live and I would love to introduce anybody that’s interested to the values of Rotary.
