Mark and Jacki Tait bring their “moving to Mexico” following to the Sea of Cortez — and their first Rocky Point episode is already live
The camera crossed the border at Sonoyta, rolled south past the desert and the dunes, and by the time it reached the Sea of Cortez, a whole new audience was along for the ride. Mark and Jacki Tait — the YouTube couple who document the real adventure of moving to Mexico — spent five days in Rocky Point this summer, and their first Puerto Peñasco episode just went live this week.
If you haven’t met the Taits yet, plenty of would-be snowbirds have. The couple built a loyal following by trading the guesswork of relocating south of the border for honest, on-the-ground video — the border crossing, the first taco stand, the paperwork, the sunsets. Their new release, cheekily titled “Our Rocky Point Adventure Begins…With a Border Inspection,” opens exactly the way most of our visitors arrive: four hours from Phoenix, a quick stop at the Lukeville-Sonoyta crossing, the drive in past the desert, and then that first glorious view of the water.
That’s big news for our little fishing town. Over five days on the coast, Mark and Jacki filmed their way all over Rocky Point — cruising the streets and neighborhoods, strolling the malecón, eating their weight in fresh shrimp and ceviche, wading into the warm Sea of Cortez, and trading hellos with the easy mix of locals, expats, and snowbirds who make this place tick. Their home base for the week was Viviente at Sandy Beach — the new gated residential community on the dunes that I have the privilege of developing — and from there they explored the beach and the historic old port.
Inside Viviente’s gates, Mark and Jacki spent time with residents, toured the just-opened clubhouse, and walked through the model homes. But the real star of their footage is Rocky Point itself — the beaches, the food, and the laid-back binational rhythm that visitors fall for and never quite shake.
Exposure like this is a gift for local tourism. Every honest look at Puerto Peñasco — the easy drive down, the affordability, the genuine welcome — puts the Sea of Cortez in front of thousands of families who never thought to point the car south. That is how a first-time visitor becomes a snowbird, and how a quiet playa becomes somebody’s second home.
