The Mar de Peñasco Rotary Club, Number 85799, District 4100, was officially chartered and admitted to Rotary International on May 15, 2014. Since its inception, it has operated as a mixed gender club of men and women who are leaders in our community, striving to do good. More than 10 years after its founding, and as the 2026 /2027 Rotary year begins, the Mar de Peñasco Rotary Club has 24 active members registered with Rotary International. It is worth noting that the Mar de Peñasco Rotary Club represents the third Rotary Club to exist in Puerto Peñasco. More than 10 years after its founding, the Mar de Peñasco Club has distinguished itself through a wide range of activities and projects benefiting the community of Puerto Peñasco. These initiatives have primarily focused on schools, healthcare, vision care, water access, environmental protection, and support for emergency response organizations. Our club has also hosted many district conferences.
Throughout our club’s history, the Mar Peñasco Rotary Club has successfully established relationships with other clubs…both domestic and international…and has served as a liaison for the implementation of various projects. Indeed, one of the Mar de Peñasco Rotary Club’s most significant strengths is its ability to foster relationships among clubs, as well as with governmental and non-governmental organizations – all for the benefit of the Puerto Peñasco community.
Our Rotary club recently hosted District 4100 Governor Octavio Sanchez de Lara. Whenever our District Governor visits, we like to highlight the accomplishments of our Rotary Club. We were able to tour the water purification plant, the dialysis center, and the community center, where we highlighted our hopes for a future district grant to help with the Prosthesis initiative. It was great to have the Governor and his wife spend a day with us to share updates and opportunities that our club could engage in. Octavio and his wife are both members of the Ensenada Rotary Club.
Another activity that happens every summer involves our Rotary Exchange Program. This year we have one exchange student from Brazil; her name is Ibaita Parana. She will spend a year in our community living with different host families. Also, this year we have an outgoing exchange student, Maria Rene, daughter of one of our Rotarians, Josefina Campuzano Senday. Rene is spending her exchange year in Japan.
As always, we have a lot going on and will continue to focus on the needs of our community. If you know of something that really needs our help, let us know, naturally we have to prioritize, and we can’t do everything, but it’s great to hear from the community with ideas of how we can improve the quality of life in Rocky Point. Please mark your calendar for the Polio Plus Dinner to be held on October 15th. We are still finalizing the time and place, but will let you know ASAP. Also, we are always looking for new members or individuals who would like to volunteer.
