¡Feliz Septiembre, Rocky Point! As usual, I am a tad tardy with my article, but I have done quite a bit of traveling this summer. Many journeys with new and old friends to meet and carry on a piece with 😊! I am truly happy to be back home after two trips to Europe this summer; it definitely is a day travel to make it from the western USA or Mexico!
After returning from Mykonos, I was back for a couple weeks, and then off we went for another European vacation. The Greek islands are usually breezy and have mild weather, which is always great. However, my return voyage took me to Rome, Italy, where we went club hopping to some of the finest joints in Italy. It was super fun, which reminded me of Rocky Point with the fun factor at the clubs. Then it was on to Capri, an island off the coast of Italy. The underground ocean caves were absolutely amazing, as were the sites. Next, we hit Corfu, Greece, where things started to heat up temperature-wise even more! We found a beach club that was super fun, but you really needed to be in the water the whole time or kapow with the sun. I am not sure what the Greek bartender was giving us free shots of, but it sure did the trick 😊! We then moseyed over to Kotor, Montenegro, and just wow…definitely one of the coolest and most scenic countries I have ever traveled to. We took a new Swiss cable car ride up to the top of the mountain overlooking all the Adriatic Sea below, and it was amazing, and thankfully, the higher elevation helped a bit with cooling things down. From there, I was able to return to Split, Croatia and it was awesome to see our long-time Rocky Point residents, Cherri Marrese and Uncle Lloyd who were super happy in their new home(s) in Croatia. They really seemed to be enjoying their new lifestyle in Croatia, but I know they will be back to Rocky Point for part of the year as well. Then, it was on to Venice, Italy for several days. By this time, Europe was literally on fire! I remind myself to not speak if I have nothing to say but complaints, so I was very quiet…shocking but true. The temps in Venice were over 95 degrees and way humid, and not an A/C unit on site. The 4-star hotel said, “That’s as low as the thermostat will go”. I was taking showers every hour through the night to cool down, as it was strikingly HOT! Overall, it was an amazing trip, and I was able to spend it with my family and especially celebrating my sister Vickie’s birthday and see friends along the way. Note to self…NO EUROPE in August…NO BUENO! I kept envisioning that I wanted to join an Eskimo clan with Nanook of the North as a means of mentally cooling off.
Well, I guess I should preface that comment with…I am returning again in a week at the end of August; however, I am traveling to Scotland, Ireland, and England, where the temps are supposed to be in the 60’s and 70’s…now that’s my kind of summer travel! I look forward to seeing our TCU Horned Frogs play their opening football game in Dublin vs North Carolina. GO FROGS!!! I am really excited for the new scenery, greenery, and breweries, so it should be a most fun adventure!
I am pretty sure I overbooked my schedule for 2026 travel and will be happy to return again to Rocky Point soon. Note to all…be grateful for all that we have in Mexico…most of all, ice and A/C! There are so many parts of modern societies where these items are NOT a norm, and it’s like a suffering contest on who is going to overheat and pass out first! I am sure grateful for all that we have in Rocky Point…beautiful scenery, amazing friends, delicious restaurants, kind-hearted culture, and so much more. Even though it is only August, I am making my New Year’s resolution for 2027…STAY HOME!!! Wait, I think I have a trip in January 😊…oh well!
For those of you who braved it in Rocky Point in August, hats off to you, and I heard it was fairly nice compared to previous years, but all I know is, no matter what, it could not have been as hot as it was in Europe! As Robert Frost has written, “Some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice”. I definitely choose ICE!!!
