It’s easy to get caught up in the holiday scramble to fulfill social commitments and wish lists this time of year. It makes it easy to forget the real reason for the Christmas season.

With that in mind, St. Joseph’s music minister created “The Reason for the Season” Christmas Concert in 2017. The goal was to present a program of beautifully inspiring and peaceful music to settle the soul, slow the heartbeat, relaxes the shoulders and engender hope in a sometimes-frantic world.

The sixth annual “Reason for the Season” Christmas concert will be presented on Friday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Chapel in La Choya.

The program will include traditional Christmas hymns performed by St. Joseph’s Christmas Choir, followed by performances by the students of the Academia de Musica Rafael Sotelo in Rocky Point, all under the direction of German Esquer founder and director of the Academy.

Every year, those in attendance have been amazed and delighted by the incredible talent of the Academy students. From traditional Mexican Christmas songs to classics including the Gloria by Vivaldi and the Hallelujah by Handel, they show skill beyond their years.

It will be an evening of music; no church service will take place. People of all faiths are welcome. Attendees will have an opportunity to make a free-will donation to a scholarship fund for the students, but admission to the concert is free. There is seating for approximately 160.

To reach the church, take the paved road past the Sandy Beach condos and the dirt road past Wrecked at the Reef. As you wind toward Cholla Bay, the church is on your right. There is parking on both sides of the church and on adjacent streets. All are welcome.
