The Mermaid’s Market is in its twelfth season! It has grown significantly over that time. From just a handful of vendors in the early days – to now, dozens of artistic and talented “mermaids” filling the park with an amazing variety of color and artwork! You will find new treasures at each market.

There are restaurants and other food vendors serving fantastic artisan flavors for you! The bar is a favorite with several mixed drinks made with “Mermaid-entrusted” secret recipes! Including the nearly-famous blue Mermaid Margarita, an Italian Margarita and the popular Bloody Maria made with “V-8 Tequila” (a proprietary recipe of infused white tequila.)

The Mermaid’s Market is once again working under the “oversight” of the local DIF office. This relationship should allow for a much more successful and efficient process to receive the necessary permits required for each market. For the first 10 years that the Mermaid’s Market existed it had worked with DIF; so, this re-alignment should prove to be advantageous for both the Market and for DIF.

What is DIF? It is a government – and locally supported – entity which offers assorted help to local disadvantaged families, children and older shut-ins. They provide food packets for those who are in need. Their program prepares daily meals for some of the elderly in the community who are shut-ins for various reasons and have no family support. They also offer some scholarships for schooling.

DIF will have a Bin at each market – collecting donations of Laundered Clothing and TOYS! So, please grab a few toys to donate and bring them to any of the Mermaid’s Markets at the Shrimp Park/Plaza… you will give back to our local community and bring a smile to a child’s face! Your donations will be appreciated.

The Mermaid’s Market is generally scheduled for the FIRST and THIRD Saturday of each month. However, there are always a few exceptions. Each Spring brings the Oaxaca Expo which uses the same park and will be set up for about one month around the Semana Santa Holiday. Finally, the last Mermaid’s Market of the season is held on Memorial Day Weekend – which is generally the fourth Saturday in May. There are a few other special events in the making, so check out that website: www.mermaidsmarket.com.

So, visit the Mermaid’s Market and EAT. DRINK. SHOP.
