Puerto Peñasco is quickly becoming a place for foodies: With the Sea of Cortez at its front door providing the freshest seafood like shrimp, crabs and fish and the State of Sonora being known for its outstanding beef, local restaurants are offering up some incredible dishes.

Overlooking our Port, you will find one of Rocky Point’s favorite restaurants and cantinas, Los Mtz. Not only is it a place for great cocktails, but they offer one of Peñasco’s most unique dishes: Pescado a la Talla, which is a whole fish – whatever the catch of the day is – usually being grouper, bass or red snapper, butterflied and then marinated with their family recipe and cooked over mesquite embers. Their unique family recipe hails from Acapulco and dates back to 1975 when their grandfather opened up Las Gaviotas. His restaurant was wildly popular and featured popular and delicious family recipe dishes such as fish empanadas, sopecitos, octopus a la diabla, garlic shrimp and other dishes which you can enjoy today at Los Mtz. Restaurant.

Los Mtz. is a fun place where you can enjoy creative Acapulo-style seafood dishes as well as a variety of Mexican spirits like tequila from Jalisco, Mezcal from Guerrero and Oaxaca, Bacanora from Sonora, Sotol from Chihuahua, and Pox from Chiapas. All of these spirits are perfect for sipping or can be made into a delicious cocktail featuring mixed fruits, artisan salts, agave syrup and lots of other ingredients they add to make the perfect cocktail for you to enjoy as you take in a daytime view of the port and all of the towns shrimping and private boats or one of the beautiful sunsets Peñasco offers every night. The best part is that the drink of your choice is prepared right there at your table – great views all around!

Los Mtz. is a wonderfully unique place to enjoy excellent food and great cocktails with friends and loved ones. Peñasco revolves around the fishing and shrimping industry, and Los. Mtz. is located right in the heart of it all offering you delicious food, excellent drinks and wonderful service. Go visit them Thursday through Tuesday from 11:30 AM to 8:30 PM (closed Wednesday). They are located across the street from the fishermen’s wharf/marina/sunset cruise loading area, on your way into the Old Port at Marcelo Pino entre Ave. Vaquita and Ave. Recinto Portuario. Give them a call for reservations at (744) 402-0184. Buen provecho!
