The 6th edition of the Art Walk will take place once again this month in Puerto Peñasco. A group of local artists gather at several venues in the Old Port, giving art lovers the opportunity to wander around while getting to enjoy their works of art. Everyone is welcome to come out from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Saturday, December 28th, wander the streets, enjoy the artwork and get to know some of our local artists. Stop in at Leo’s Bar, Café del Puerto, Patio del Arte, Buzagi Coffee, and Mercedes Rústicos where you can enjoy works and art and meet the artists. All of these venues are located nearby along two streets in the Old Port – 1° de Junio and Alcantar with a little detour on 20 de Noviembre street.
This edition’s artists will be Mario Perez, Diana Caballero, Valery Mireles, Manuel m. Peña, Jose Pastor, Gloria Nuñez, Luis Garzón, Monica Gisele, Nat Lala, @mini.missys, Agua Salada, Benito del Águila, Revels Art Gallery and Socorro Gonzalez. The variety of styles and techniques include, impressionism, abstract, surrealism, cubism and figurative works, ranging from a contrasting black and white to works full of vivid colors portraying the artists’ personality.
Last year’s edition of the Art Walk was a huge success, and participation is anticipated to grow year after year. Last year visitors loved the opportunity to walk along the streets, meet the artists and learn a little bit more about their work, technique, media, etc. all adding more value to the artwork which they purchased.
The first Art Walk took place back in 2016 when a group of local artists was approached by Adelaida del Real who has a long career as promoter of art and artists. She suggested the creation of a “space” where artists from Puerto Peñasco could display their creations with the intention to sell their works of art and show visitors and art lovers alike the large variety of paintings the city has to offer. Puerto Peñasco is fortunate to have a lot of local talent when it comes to artists who paint utilizing different techniques and media. Some members of this group are:
Manuel M. Peña, who features an unusual technique of painting with natural sand of different colors – natural colors without adding paint. Manuel also acted as promoter, on three occasions when he gathered a group of artists and took their artwork to be exhibited in France. The first exhibition took place in 2016 at the Gallery Metanoia in Paris. The theme of this exhibition was the Virgin of Guadalupe. The second exhibition was the first edition of the International Sacred Art Festival in Senlis, France in 2019 where more than 199 artists from different nations participated. In that exhibition, one of the paintings from this group won one of the six awards and recognitions presented by the organizers. And the third exhibition took place in 2021 during the second edition of the International Sacred Art Festival but this time in Compiegne, France. In each of those three exhibitions a group of about 20 artists participated. Some of them will be present during this 5th edition of the Art Walk in the Old Port.
Valery Mireles, another artist who has adopted the technique of painting with sand.
Mario Perez, who exhibits his peculiar technique – a combination of cubism and abstract.
Gloria Nuñez, who has 19 years of experience as a muralist and art teacher and who has painted and exhibited internationally.
Photography is also part of this exhibition. Photographers Diana Caballero and Socorro Gonzalez Barajas along with others will be presenting their work.
We invite you to join us for a beautiful evening of strolling through Old Port and meeting a variety of very talented artists. Come early and enjoy a late lunch or early dinner, a beautiful sunset and an evening cocktail. See you there!
