It’s here…the hot months of summer. We were grateful to find a place with a pool. We had visions of being in it every day, all day. This was especially important since we live in an area where there are extreme tides, so the ocean is not really an option. Unfortunately, the every day, all day thing didn’t quite work out.
Welcome to my next edition of “what NOT to do”! We’ve had pools in the past and really enjoyed them. We’ve always been able to regulate and take care of them ourselves. So, when the tiles of this pool started to break off, we thought, ok, no big deal, we’ll just glue them back on. Off to the pool store. Luckily, they could figure out my Spanglish and what was happening. They gave me what he said we needed, and back home I went. After emptying the pool, one or two tiles quickly turned into several and then A LOT of tiles falling off. Gluing them back on was no longer an option. I’ll fast forward through this next section. We hired a guy who said the pool would look great after he got done taking all the tiles off, re- facing it, and painting it. What we got was an unfinished job in a pool that looked like it had mud in it due to the paint color. Needless to say, we fired him. After some more discussion, we decided that we could buy the paint ourselves and, with the help of our handyman, while we were at it, we were going to add a heater. So, after buying 2 heaters…one of which ended up being too small and not powerful enough, filling and emptying the pool 3 more times, I think we’ve finally got it. I’m pretty sure the neighbors thought “dumb Gringas!”
So, here we are. The pool is beautiful, has a working heater, and I think we’ve been in it twice! We did have some friends visit, and they quite enjoyed it, so I’ll take that as a win!
