Welcome to the coastal paradise of Puerto Peñasco! With 55 miles of coastline, you will want to get outdoors and spend time at the many beaches, estuaries, and tide pools. I like to suggest that visitors seek outdoor adventures involving water, clamming, dolphins, sea lions, sea turtles, sunsets on the beach with friends and a glass of wine. Sunset cruises, live music, charter boat fishing trips, or my favorite, fly fishing from a kayak are all great ways to experience the best part of Puerto Peñasco, the outdoors.
Housing options vary from simple camping set ups, to nice rental beach houses, condos, to the all-inclusive 30-story luxury condo complex that make it so nice you never need to leave the property, but I encourage you to get out and explore and get to see all of the fun things to do. Shopping should include the Malecon (downtown Old Port), Rodeo Drive (curios), Super Ley (grocery store), Fruterías (fruit and vegetable markets), Mermaid Market (craft fair Oct-May). Physical exercises like horseback riding, banana boat rides, ultralight flights, pickle ball, golf, bull riding could round out your to do list, or not.
Food options can be basic inexpensive taco carts, a meal at the oyster farm, to the fine dining experiences with linen tablecloths and a wine sommelier. My tastes are simple, and I always visit Pollo Lucas on Benito Juarez under the palapa, El Captain on Whale Hill, and La Curva on Blvd. Kino. You can get Chinese, Italian, sushi, some of the best shrimp & fish meals you have ever had, and an almost endless choice of restaurants.
If you are looking for other things to do bingo, cards, board games, dominoes, horseshoes, karaoke, and trivia take place around town, ask your favorite bartender and look on Page 10 of this and every edition of the RPTimes for local daily and monthly events. Volunteers are appreciated and there are many worthy charities that would like a helping hand. Be on the lookout for the First Annual Empty Bowls Fundraising Event at the American Legion Post #15, which is located in the El Mirador are at 141 Chihuahua in the Baja Hotel, Saturday, November 30, 10 AM to 2 PM. Event designed to help neighbors threatened by food insecurity. The fly fishing is good and Vince Deadmond can be reached at vincehasgonefishing@outlook.com or 480 818 1796.
