As we begin to wind down the summer and look to Fall for some cooler weather, our Rotary Club has been busy planning activities for the 2025-2026 year ahead.

Our first annual event is our Polio Plus Dinner. This dinner will be held on October 29th. It is our great hope that many of you, loyal supporters, will continue to support this cause; as a reminder, all Rotary Clubs around the world plan an event such as this to support the cause of the eradication of polio around the world. Our Club has always enjoyed a very successful event because of the support of our many community members. So, please, please mark your calendars and plan to buy a ticket. Maybe even a couple…there will be more details on the ticket sales and where the event will happen in the October Rocky Point Times…, right now just save the date!

I am pleased to announce that we have received a donation for the generator needed to open the dialysis center. Now, we just have to figure out how to get it across the border without paying a high duty…Thank you to the American who donated this…It has allowed us to get much closer to the opening of the center.

This is also the time of the year that we welcome our new Rotary Exchange Students. We had such a wonderful group last year and know that this year’s group will be equally as special. Our incoming students are: Leah Hammer from Belgium, Leah Sebert from Germany and Chen-Chilo “Andy” from Taiwan. We also have three outgoing Rotary Exchange Students from Puerto Peñasco. They are: Ana Kamala, who will be spending a year in Canada, Ryan Molina and Mia Cuadras who will each be spending the year in Taiwan. We all look forward to learning and sharing with these fantastic young people.

On November 13th, 14th, and 15th we will be hosting our Annual Eye Clinic. Through partnerships with other organizations, we are able to screen and provide glasses to many, many residents of our community. If any of you know somebody in need of glasses now is the time to let a Rotarian know, so we can make sure we put their name on the list for an appointment.

Recently, we were able to be the conduit between a Canadian Rotary Club and the local orphanage. As the orphanage plans to accommodate infants, they are in great need of beds for these babies and through a financial contribution from one of our sister clubs in Canada we were able to buy the materials and have the beds made. This is just one example of why it’s so important to have a local Rotary Club, because it allows us tons of partnerships around the world. We are in search right now of a global partner to help us with our newest initiative, which is to support the creation of a prosthetic center here in Rocky Point, where limbs will be made and distributed to the local people in need. We are just in the beginning stages of this, but we will keep you posted as this project develops. We plan to write a global grant to support this initiative. The global grant process was the way the water plant was constructed and now we are able to deliver drinking water to all the grade schools in our town.

As always, we would love to share our mission with many of you and invite you to attend one of our weekly meetings to find out more about Rotary. See the information at the bottom of this article.
