A great May to all!!! Lots going on at the post this month and you won’t want to miss any of it. Since May 3rd is Derby Day at Churchill Downs in Kentucky, we are making the most of it! The post is going to celebrate “Derby Day” by adding a game to our bingo schedule. You can take a chance on winning the derby at the post by participating! It could be a profitable day if you are lucky! Wear your best hat too! Prizes for your most beautiful creations. Let’s celebrate the Kentucky Derby in style!
May 11th is Mothers’ Day, and the post is having a ‘pot luck’ dinner starting at noon. Cost is $5.00 if you bring a passing dish and $7.00 if you just come to eat! Come on over and let’s give “MOM” her due!!
Of course, May is Memorial Day month as well. A somber remembrance of all those who have given their last full measure of devotion to their nation and now rest eternally. This year it falls on Monday, the 26th. Many do not know that there are American Veterans buried here at the cemetery in Peñasco. Each year the post and the American Legion Riders go the cemetery and place flags on the graves of our fallen comrades. All are welcome to attend. At 10:00 a.m. on the 26th, a caravan led by motorcycles of the Legion Riders, will leave the post for the cemetery. You are welcome to ride as well, if you are so inclined. After placing the flags and performing “taps” at each grave site, the riders and other Legion members will return to the post for a hamburger and hot dog lunch. All are welcome!!
In case you didn’t know: We also offer a “friends of veterans” membership for non-veterans and members (Legion or friends) who will receive a discount at the bar. So, you don’t need to be a veteran to come on by! WE ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!!!
Speaking of ‘reasonably priced food and drink,’ –which we weren’t but are now-, if you’ve been in Peñasco for any length of time, you have probably noticed the huge increase in restaurant prices, especially drink prices! I’m here to suggest that you give the American Legion Post #15 a try. The drinks are very reasonably priced, and the food costs are well below many of the local eateries! It’s a great place to come and hang out!

Pool Tournament Team: This is a more flexible “social” pool league, with no official roster…anyone can play! Four reliable players are needed each week. You can play once, or every week if you’d like. Sign up at the Legion or contact the team captain, Anastasia Armenta on Facebook.
