Whatever you do, don’t miss a trip to Rodeo Drive while you’re visiting Rocky Point; it is an absolute shopper’s delight. You’ll find handcrafted items made in Mexico, often created right on Rodeo Drive. An eclectic collection of original art, mixed media art, metal flowers, and more line the street. Something for every budget, and you’ll be doing wonders for the local community.
This month, you’ll also find everyone busily preparing for Dia de Los Muertos, which will be celebrated on the Drive on Friday, October 31st, and Saturday, November 1st. If you’re in town, this is a wonderful, traditional celebration. The street will be closed to traffic, and you can enjoy live music and dancing, altars, face painting, parades, beautiful Catrinas, and traditional Mexican food. There is nonstop entertainment on the stage at the end of the street, erected just for this amazing celebration.
The holiday is a tribute to those who have passed, who will always stay alive in our memory. On Dia de Los Muertos, it is believed the spirit of the dead returns home to spend time with their loved ones. A time of celebration to welcome them back. The family will build an altar to welcome them, which includes yellow marigolds, candles, photos of the loved one, tissue paper with intricate designs, as well as any favorite food and beverages. Because they have had to make the long journey back, you’ll also find some toiletries so they can freshen up and some mementos of the time they were here.
If you would like to participate in the festival by honoring your loved one, Su Casa will once again have an altar that is open to everyone. Please bring a photo of your loved one and any small memento that has meaning to you and them to the store by Wednesday, October 29th. Just make sure your things are labeled, and they will be placed on their altar. Following the festival, you may collect your photos and memorabilia.
So come and experience the magic of Rodeo Drive for yourself. Whether you’re a seasoned visitor or new to our little town, there’s always something new to see. Diverse selection, reasonable prices, and a wide variety. Friendly vendors and reasonable prices. You couldn’t ask for anything more.
See you on the Drive.
