It’s a beautiful time of year to vacation here in paradise! We hope this finds you well, and soaking up all the goodness Rocky Point has to offer. While you’re here, we hope you’ll take some time to visit our rescue, our dogs LOVE visitors!

We’ve received several inquiries about the CDC’s new guidelines regarding bringing dogs into the United States from Mexico, so we thought we’d share what we know at this time, and what we’re hearing from travelers and tourists who frequent Rocky Point with their dogs.

Initial indications from the CDC were that dogs would need a plethora of documents to travel into the USA, along with their microchip information. Thankfully, just a week or so before the new guidelines were to come into play the CDC formally relaxed their requirements. The policy change was a result of the enormous amount of feedback they received from the public-we are so grateful they listened! The new guidelines are straightforward and simple, and only require travelers to complete the “CDC Import Form” (use this web address to access the form: https://www.cdc.gov/importation/dogs/dog-import-form-instructions.html), which can be submitted online-no printing needed! Simply fill in the online form with basic information about you and your canine companion(s), hit the “submit” button, and you will receive your import form receipt via email, within just a few minutes. The form can be used for multiple entries into the US for six months. When you arrive at the Lukeville border, have the receipt available for the US border agent to see on your phone (we promise, you don’t need to print it), and you’ll be on your way. The border agents may or may not ask for the receipt, but it’s best to have it ready just in case. Dogs love their trips to Rocky Point, and we’re so happy that travelers will continue to be able to easily bring their dogs back and forth from Mexico. Keep in mind, you should always have your dog’s vaccine records with you, especially the rabies vaccine-this is not a new rule. Agents don’t ask for these very often, but they can…and if they do, you’ll want to have them.

At one point, there was much chatter about the microchip requirement but at this point, a microchip is not required. With that said, it is always a good idea to have your furry friends chipped, and we are pleased to be offering microchipping services at Barb’s Dog Rescue! Just come on over any day between 10am-2pm, ring the bell at the entrance, and we will come to your vehicle to chip your dog. We ask for a $25USD donation in exchange for this service.

When you adopt your new best friend from BDR, we’ll be happy to help you fill out the online CDC import form while you’re at the rescue, and you’ll be all set for your drive back to the US! Every dog adopted from our rescue is now receiving an ISO certified microchip-we will supply you with the chip information, along with instructions on how to register it in your name. We’re happy to answer any lingering questions you might have, just send an email to barbsdogrescue@gmail.com, and we will promptly reply.

As the weather begins to cool, we hope you’ll spend some time volunteering at the rescue! Our needs are great, and we so appreciate the help! We can customize a volunteer experience that works for you-from simply giving pets and treats, to helping feed, leash train, or socialize, we want you to love every minute of your visit to this magical, safe rescue and sanctuary that is home to nearly 400 dogs. If you can’t volunteer, you can donate! We accept all things “dog,” including toys, treats, leashes and harnesses, cleaning supplies, beds, and of course, food! Food donations must be seafood or poultry based according to Mexico law and cannot exceed 50lbs (dry) or five cases (wet). If Mexico isn’t a part of your itinerary, we have drop off locations throughout Arizona-email us for more info. As always, your cash donations are so needed and appreciated; our rescue is funded with generous donations from dog loving people!
