it’s glorious! Want to know how to make it even better? Take a drive out to Barb’s Dog Rescue, where you’ll be greeted with a smile and hundreds of wagging tails…our dogs get so excited when they have visitors!

Just the other day, I received a text message from someone asking if the rescue would be open on Thanksgiving Day (yes—we’re open 365 days/yr). It was this family’s first visit to Puerto Peñasco, and not knowing what to expect, they took a shuttle to town, so they didn’t have a vehicle. They jumped in a cab and arrived to the best welcoming committee ever! They made such a heartfelt effort to visit us, that I decided the full “VIP” tour was in order for these folks. We walked around the entire rescue, taking our time to love on hundreds of eager dogs, who were turning themselves inside out while waiting for their turn for pets and belly rubs! We toured our intake facility, our mom and pup area, our main house, and everything in between.

When we were finished, we sat on the front stairs with happy dogs spread all around us, and just chatted. We learned about each other, and it was nice to have time to tell the story about Barb and the rescue, how it all began, how far we’ve come, and our dreams for the future. As we sat together, these kind folks reached into their pockets and happily made an amazing donation, which made me cry…and then they cried…and it was beautiful.

This family was clearly dazzled by the experience, declared that their visit to the rescue was the highlight of their trip to Rocky Point, and promised that next time, they’d be coming in their own vehicle and would make Barb’s Dog Rescue a central part of their vacation.

We would love to give you a “VIP” tour! It will warm your heart and will bring such joy to our dogs! As always, we welcome donations of any and all things “dog.” Towels, sheets, bedding & blankets, toys, and of course food (just make sure to only bring poultry or seafood-based food over the border). The Why Not Travel Store oftentimes has food that needs to be transported to us, so stop by and grab a bag on your way down, but keep in mind there is a 50 lb. limit per vehicle.

From all of us at Barb’s Dog Rescue, we wish you a beautiful 2025, and we hope we’ll get to meet you in person this year!
