Our water crisis has been worse than ever this year – never have we needed to begin hauling water daily, so early in the season. Since April, we’ve consistently needed one water delivery per day. We’re more grateful than ever for the two large water cisterns we installed a few years back…they are saving us.

Pipa, our delivery man, has made Barb’s Dog Rescue his first stop each day, seeing to it that our dogs have all the cool water they need to stay comfortable in the desert heat. His truck has a 20,000-liter capacity – larger than any of the other delivery services in town, and the only service who can fill both of our cisterns in one trip.

But back on May 12th, Pipa delivered more than just water…he delivered a message that’s left us broken hearted, and worried. The City has discontinued access to his usual water source, leaving him no choice but to find an alternative supply, at a much higher price – 65% more, to be exact.

For the last two years, the cost of one daily truckload of water has cost $117. Without notice, that price has now jumped to $193. Pipa is working diligently with the City to resolve the issue and is hopeful he’ll reach an agreement with them. But until that happens, Barb’s Dog Rescue has an urgent need to raise funds to help cover this sudden increase. Water is critical to our operation, and we have an emergency on our hands. The hot desert sand needs moisture to keep heat-sensitive paws cool. Soaking pools are critical. Laundry needs to be done. Hot, thirsty dogs need a constant supply of cool, fresh water.

This urgent plea is being sent to those who read the monthly stories in the Rocky Point Times – there are thousands of you. We make every effort to keep our messages positive, sharing stories and updates to make you smile. This time, the tone is different, but it is necessary. If everyone reading this could give just a small amount, it will help us get through this trying time. Please, if you’re able, consider making a donation toward Barb’s Dog Rescue fight to keep fresh water flowing.

Donations can be made on our website: www.barbsdogrescue.org, by check: P.O. Box 215, Lukeville, AZ 85341, or in person at the rescue – if you’ve not visited, please come say hello to our 400 dogs; they love visitors!
