The Puerto Peñasco Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV) indicates 2015 has seen a 15% increase in tourism to Puerto Peñasco, both nationally and from abroad.

Rafaela Félix de Figueroa, President of the Comprehensive Community Assistance Project A.C. representing the dialysis center project in Puerto Peñasco, recently reported on the clinic’s progress in fulfilling requirements established by COFEPRIS (Federal Commission for the Protection of Health Risks). Plans are still set at seeing the clinic finally begin operating by the end of the year.

The recent Spring Break in Puerto Peñasco is believed to have been one of the best in recent years, with more than 55,000 visitors from the U.S. in the area over the three weeks of the vacation period.

Dozens of environmental and civil groups, along with the local administration, are carrying out a series of actions with eyes set on obtaining clean beach certification for Puerto Peñasco. These efforts include clean-up, security measures, new regulations, and preparations.

During a brief interview with Javier Tapia Camou, following the Puerto Peñasco Mayoral Address earlier this week, the Coordinator of the State Commission for the Promotion of Tourism (COFETUR) made assurances that per State and Federal programming this coming November should see the laying of the first stone on what will become the Puerto Peñasco Home Port. This project will include an investment of nearly 600 million pesos and is expected to boost new tourism markets in the area.
