Hopefully, several of you read last month’s Rotary article, it was about the family and the home that was built by a group of young people and the Heber/Rocky Point Rotary Clubs. The Heber, Utah Rotary Club along with 12 young people were in Rocky Point for a few days where they constructed a home for a family. They accomplished a lot in just a few days, but there’s still some work to be done before the family can move in, so our Rocky Point Rotary Club has made a commitment to finish the house, as well as trying to provide some furnishings.

The Rocky Point Rotary Club will complete the interior of the house and all our club members, working together with the family, will paint the inside of the house. We are also asking for and gathering donations of furniture, household goods, and anything else that somebody would like to donate. If any of your readers want to donate items after you’ve done your spring house cleaning just give me a call and I’ll make arrangements to pick it up. My information is at the end of this article.

Our club is also working continually on the prosthetics initiative. We are gathering information to write a global grant in order to generate the funding needed for this project. This is a very large undertaking and is going to take some time to establish the facility and the ability to manufacture the prosthetics, but in the meantime, we continue to fit and supply as many of the prosthetics that we can. The need is very high in Rocky point for this service.

Recently, our club also donated fresh food and meat to Esperanza. There are certain times of the year that the children’s home lacks funding, so we have tried to help fill that gap. We also met with a group of Rotarians from the Scottsdale Rotary Club that also provided food for the children’s home, as well as other donations to some local schools. Our connection with other Rotary clubs allows us to do so much more than we could if we were just acting alone…one of the many advantages to having a Rotary Club in Puerto Peñasco.

Lucy Bustamante (the owner of Lucy’s Spa) is our incoming president and will begin her term in July. She, along with several of her board members, recently attended the Rotary District Conference. Needless to say, she has brought back many ideas for service projects, and it looks like next year is going to be a very, very, busy year! We would love to expand our membership and include a higher number of Americans. If you have any interest in becoming a member, please come and visit or if you’re a Rotarian already and would like to transfer your membership that would even be better. We need more hands-on deck to provide the service that our community deserves. Come check us out! Dr. Sally
