When people think about animal welfare, they usually think about rescue. They picture abandoned puppies, injured dogs, frightened cats, and the people trying to help them. Rescue is a very important part of what we do, but some of the most important work happens before an animal ever needs to be rescued.
Recently, Compassion Without Borders had the opportunity to visit COBACH and talk with local high school students about animal care. We were so grateful for the chance to be there. Any time we can talk with young people about kindness, responsibility, and the needs of animals, we know it matters.
We talked about sterilization, vaccinations, basic care, and what it really means to bring an animal into your home. Not in a formal or preachy way. Just real conversations about the choices people make every day, and how those choices affect the animals who depend on us.
The students we meet today will be the pet owners, parents, teachers, and leaders of tomorrow. Every young person who learns that animals feel fear, pain, comfort, and joy becomes part of creating a kinder community.
Education happens in many ways at Compassion Without Borders. It happens when Liz helps a client understand hospital care, when Karina prepares a rescued animal for a safe future, and when Dr. Fernanda talks with the public about health and prevention. It happens in schools, at the clinic, at the shelter, and in small conversations that may not seem big at the time but can change the way someone sees an animal forever.
We will always rescue animals who need us. That work matters deeply. But we also want to help build a future where fewer animals are abandoned, injured, unwanted, or afraid.
Rescue changes lives one animal at a time. Education helps change what comes next.
