Feliz Junio Rocky Point! Well, our summer is upon us and the weather has been just awesome this past month. June is definitely one of my favorite months in Rocky Point. As the temps rise in the American southwest, Rocky Point usually remains much cooler with our ocean breezes and the nights are even better…. Perfect! So, grab your swimsuits and head on out to the beach……..it’s SUMMER!!!!  In May I had the pleasure of hosting my family from Europe….. Slovakia. They had never been to Mexico before so a special shout out to everyone in town who helped to show them the “time of their lives” as they put it. They were amazed at the beauty of our “little” beach town and how everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Some of my crew struggle with English a bit, so we had to interpret the Spanish for them which was always hysterical. All 5 of them were sad to leave but cannot wait to come back! A couple months ago, my article included an interview with my daughter, Via. So, I thought it would be cool to get an insight into my son’s experience of growing up in Rocky Point since he was a very young boy to today at 25 years old! Sooooooooooooo………..here we go Zack!!!!

Marco~ What are your first memories of Rocky Point, Zack?

Zack~ Well, it was much calmer back then than now. We would go to the beach every day and swim and find cool things to keep us busy. There were a lot fewer options outside of the condo complex back then. I remember when the C Tower (middle tower) was going up at Bella Sirena and watching the progress over the year until completion. Back in the day, there was the Reef, Capones, JJ’s, Max’s and such. Today, Rocky Point has become so much more popular than just the locals and people from Arizona. It seems to be more of a destination from people from all over. I remember when most of the roads around town were all sand….there were only a few paved roads in town!

Marco~ In deed, just look at the license plates from around town. It REALLY has changed a lot….front to back! What were some of your favorite things to do as a kid in Rocky Point?

Zack~ Well, definitely the beach. We used to ride the banana boat daily, go to Sally’s (Xochitl’s) in Cholla Bay for breakfast in the morning or we would go to Max’s. We would always meet new friends and play sports with them on the lawn at Bella. It was much simpler back then….we didn’t have options like bowling alleys or anything. Now, you can go to 50 places or more in a week for all kinds of choices.

Marco~ Yes, with each tower and home development that goes up, along comes more options for everyone! What are some of your favorite restaurants and bars today?

Zack~ For breakfast, I love Max’s. For dinner, I would say Mare Blu, El Capitan and Santo Coyote for the food and the views. For bars, I would say Tekila Bar, Manny’s Beach Club, Banditos, JJ’s, Leo’s Bar and Capone’s.

Marco~ Hmmmmm, I think I may have moseyed into all of those places myself. May not have moseyed out….but anyway, what do you think is unique about Rocky Point to see it keep growing more and more popular than maybe a family’s decision to vacation in San Diego?

Zack~ It is a different culture here which I really like. San Diego is beautiful but if you are looking for something a bit different, than it is an easy choice. Rocky Point is so much more affordable for everything here. Our ocean water is way warmer than California’s where it is cold year-round. Our fishing is amazing! The people are so down to earth here and truly awesome. Everyone is so friendly, especially Tomas, Scott, Cathy, Julio and Kenny. Rocky Point is really turning into an awesome spot to be and now it just seems to be exploding with growth and there are still so many great real estate opportunities!

Marco~ In deed…. Well, your dad here pulled the trigger twice in the last 2 years on some new properties! Zack, what do your friends think when you bring them here for the first time?

Zack~ Oh, it is universal. They say it is amazing and a very special place. They make sure to let me know that they would love to come back…..every one of them….and most often they do!

Marco~ Yeah, it’s like finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! What are some of your favorite resorts?

Zack~ Encantame Resorts for sure, Bella Sirena and a big shout out to Kenny Wallace for Las Palomas Phase III.

Marco~Anything else you would like the Rocky Point Times readers to know about your thoughts on our special place?

Zack~ Rocky Point is a trip that you will never forget and for those lucky enough, a place to call home. You will want to keep coming back and will have so many new friends each time that you come.

  • Wow, thank you Z for your insight on Rocky Point and your experiences. Just watching you through the years, I know Rocky Point will always have a special place in your heart! And speaking of hearts, a special shout out to our new American Pope, Pope Leo XIV….truly historical! Well, here’s to an amazing summer and remember to follow your dreams! As Mel Robbins has said, “When it comes to your dreams, you have two choices: pursue them or be haunted by them.” So, follow your dreams and be in the best place of all………..ROCKY POINT!!!

ADIOS AMIGOS
GOD BLESS
