The Beach, The Waves & Even More…Toma and Sy!!!!
Feliz Junio, Rocky Point! What an awesome spring season it has been thus far at the beach. The weather continues to be right on par (trying to toss out my golf terminology…how am I doing, Scotty Pea?) and the vacationers and tourists keep coming at a steady flow…so good to see for all of our business owners in town! Special shout-out to all of our servers, bartenders, spa service peeps, baristas, real estate agents, rental folks, and just about anyone that helps to make our time in Rocky Point that much more special. I have seen many groups organizing a beach clean-up day near their properties, which is so cool to see. I would like to think the majority of the trash is not purposely left behind, rather we live in a slightly breezy and sometimes very windy climate next to the sea, and inevitably, garbage gets blown around from the beach or from the sea. Lending a helping hand to our community to help to make our beaches pristine is an awesome thing to do…hey, you get exercise, you get some Vitamin D from the sun, you help to preserve our unique environment both on the beach and in the sea, AND who knows, you may find an extra special surprise!
Speaking of surprises, this month we have some extra special Rocky Point residents I would like everyone to meet. They truly are two of the kindest people in town and always greet you with the biggest, warmest smile. So, let’s all meet the SOLARI’S!!! Toma and Sy!
Marco~ Hola, Toma, how are you, my friend? Please tell us a bit about you and Sy. Where are you from, and when did you come to Rocky Point for the first time?
Toma~ I was born and raised in Latvia and moved to Phoenix in August of 2010 as my sister went to ASU for her master’s degree, and I visited and loved it. It was a major transition, culturally and in every way possible. I learned English some as most Europeans speak multiple languages, but I learned more British English. I met my husband, Sy, in Arizona in 2015 at a restaurant with some friends along for the journey. Sy is originally from Iran and came to America when he was 15. I am proud to say we have two lovely daughters, Aya, who is 8, and Eva, who is 6.
Marco~ Yes, two beautiful young ladies with big smiles like their parents! When was your first time coming to Rocky Point?
Toma~ I came for the first time in 2013, and it was quite memorable! I had only been to Cancun before to the all-inclusive resorts and was used to high heels and going out all dressed up in our best outfits, and soon realized Rocky Point was a bit different. It is definitely more grounded, peaceful, and calm in Rocky Point. It was rather funny; we were ready to party all night, but learned we needed to calm down as we were warned a few times by the security staff for our music 😊!
Marco~ Hmmm, this sounds familiar with me as well…lol. But yes, I have learned as well 😊! When did you become homeowners in Rocky Point?
Toma~ In 2023, we received our condo in Encantame Towers around the 4th of July. It was beautiful, but quite funny that we came with folding chairs and a blow-up mattress for our furniture to start us out before our actual belongings came. A special shout-out to Dr. Mike for referring us to Encantame, as it has been truly a blessing.
Marco~ Great guy! He’s been a buddy of mine for 20 years, and our kids actually grew up together here on the beach. What are your favorite things to do while you are at your condo?
Toma~ We like going to the beach and pool all day with the kids. We love to go to Marco’s Fish Market when we arrive and load up on food. They clean and prepare all the seafood, and it is so fresh! We also like to go to Fruteria Sinaloa for our fruit supplies, which are also so tasty and fresh. It is also a big plus having Walmart close to Playa Encanto Beach for all of our supplies and beach toys. We cook mostly at home, but the kids really love Candy Cake’s bakery and coffee shop, so we go there a lot. We also like Blue Harbor coffee shop here at the resort, as well as all the other restaurants available here.
Marco~ In deed! I have become a fan as well. What are some of your other favorite restaurants?
Toma~ Well, we love Al Capone’s as they have lots of space, good food, and entertainment, and it is a great place to watch the games. I also love to hire the gals downstairs who come up and give massages, braids, manicures, and pedicures. I do really want to try out Rodeo Drive, but we have not made it over there yet.
Marco~ Ah, nothing like a good massage to calm your bones, and Rodeo Drive is cool to search around for some cool Mexican tchotchkes and artwork. How often are you able to come to Rocky Point?
Toma~ About monthly, but once the kids are out of school, we are planning to spend about 4-5 weeks in Rocky Point. It is something we are really looking forward to as a family, slowing down, spending more time together, and enjoying our ocean and community. This upcoming time in Rocky Point feels especially meaningful for us as it will give us a chance to reset, enjoy a slower pace, and create even more memories together as a family. During this time, Sy will be joining us on the weekends so he can unwind from work while still managing his responsibilities during the week. Sy is the owner of Creative Bespoke, a state-of-the-art full-service automotive design and customization company. It is a very hands-on, creative business that demands a lot of precision and passion.
Marco~ Way cool, yes, I have seen some of the pictures of his work…amazing! What is the site for the business so our readers can check out his cool work?
Toma~www.creativebespoke.com is the website and on Instagram it is @CreativeBespoke.
Marco~ Anything else you would like our Rocky Point Times readers to know about you all?
Toma~ We love starting our mornings with something simple but meaningful, like walking the beach just after sunrise as a family. It is a quiet time of day that feels really special. One of the things we naturally adopted is picking up trash along the way. It has become a small family habit for us. It is not something planned or formal, just something that feels right when we are out there together. It is a nice way to be present, appreciate the beauty of the coastline, and give something back to the place we love. These early morning walks have become some of our favorite moments-calm, grounding, and a great way to start the day before everyone else begins. We also love to take advantage of the horseback riding available to us here on the beach. My kids have a great experience every time. We honestly have to remind them that it is not an all-day event, every day activity, because they would be happy riding the horses for hours. What even makes it more special is the guidance of Señor Gabriel, who is incredibly kind, patient, and attentive with the children. He creates such a safe and welcoming environment that the kids feel confident and excited each time they ride. It is one of those simple experiences that ends up becoming a core memory for them-and for us parents as well, watching how happy and free they feel in those moments.
Marco~ Thank you so much Toma, for your time, and I am so glad your family is making your memories and dreams come true!
Cheers to all, and peace out. I shall see you at the beach! Special prayers out to my father, Paul, who passed away this month. I will miss him daily, but I know he will be resting in peace with my Mama, who passed last year. Thankfully, they taught me the joy of living each day to its fullest and finding the light in every moment!
ADIOS AMIGOS, GOD BLESS
Marco
