EDUCARTE TO HOST 1st EVER “LOTERIA” EVENT IN NOVEMBER!
Since I founded the Educarte program in Rocky Point in 2016, more than 90% of the funding to support the program has been provided by donations to our non-profit partner in the United States. The local Educarte team and I are incredibly grateful for the generous support from Americans that has enabled us to provide hundreds of local young people with hope for a better future through education for the past six years. However, my local team and I also believe that, for this to be a sustainable, long-term partnership, it is important that we depend less on funding from the United States and raise more money for the program from within Mexico. We have set a goal that within five years the local team will be raising at least 50% of the annual funding required for the Educarte program from within the country of Mexico.
I am very excited to announce that one of Educarte’s first major fundraising events will be a ‘Noche de Loteria” to be held the evening of Saturday November 5th. To celebrate my 61st birthday this past June I worked with our U.S. non-profit partner, Esperanca, to host a Loteria event in Phoenix to benefit the Educarte program. For those not familiar with Loteria, it is a popular game in Mexico that is similar to BINGO but with many more opportunities to win. We were thrilled to receive donations of prizes for winners from many businesses on both sides of the border, as well as several great silent auction vacation packages and the evening was a great success.
Because we received such positive feedback from those who attended the event hosted by Esperanca in Phoenix, the Educarte team has decided to host an even bigger and better Loteria event in Rocky Point in November. There will be many wonderful prizes for Loteria winners, even more great silent auction packages, live music, great food and drinks prepared by local chefs, and more. At Educarte we believe that no tool can more effectively help a young person change his or her place in life than access to education. Unfortunately, public school in Mexico is not free for older students and often not accessible for younger students. Tragically, a lack of resources leaves many hard-working parents in the community of Puerto Peñasco having to choose between meeting their family’s basic needs and sending their children to school. That is where Educarte steps in. We provide the resources that local young people need to attend school and succeed their parents continue to work hard to meet their family’s basic needs. Your support of our program helps us give children in this community access to the educational opportunities they need to create lasting change in their lives.
