Whether you’re a resident, first-time visitor, or something in between, I am sure that you have experienced the warmth and generosity of the people in this beautiful community by the sea.
Serving others is a thread that connects us all and these connections are made and strengthened in this community every day. A great example was the recent event hosted by Krissy and Rick Nichols, owners of Margarita Mermaids, to support Educarte in its mission to serve young people with special needs in our community. Guests at the event included representatives from The Rotary Club, local businesses and fun-loving friends! Many thanks to volunteers Leslie Bustamante, MaryAlice Grainger, Heather Maynard, Alberto Mungarro and Jenny Radigan and for the foot-tapping entertainment provided by talented local musicians Tim Bertsch, Richard Scott and Tony Ximenez.
The highlight of the afternoon was listening to these incredibly special children perform “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”. Hardly a dry eye in the house!

We are so grateful to Krissy, Rick, and their team. Together they have been quietly supporting those in need in Rocky Point over the past 9 years. Consider joining them in “paying it forward”. My husband Tim and I are volunteers with Educarte and grateful to be a small part of this important work. It has been a privilege to get to know some of the children, their families and the Educarte staff. The local Educarte team, led by Carolina Pacheco Maldonado, provides access to the professional resources these children need to reach their potential and participate fully in life. Thanks to a tremendous commitment from a partnership with Victory Schools in Arizona, Carolina and her team opened “Escuela de Victoria”, the first ever private special education school in Puerto Peñasco. Since opening its doors just seven months ago, “Escuela de Victoria” consists of three classrooms serving over forty students with special needs. Currently, we are only able to serve a small fraction of the young people with disabilities in the community who currently have no access to education. Special thanks to one of our major sponsors, Neil Rutt and Rocky Point Mexico Friends for their ongoing support. Working together we hope to raise funding over the next six months to expand the current program to serve many more special young people.
