Welcome to Rocky Point—lucky you, you’re here in November, the nicest month of the year to pay a visit to our seaside paradise! If you need a little doggie love while you’re here, just come on by—we’ve got you covered, and the dogs would love to see you.
We receive oodles of phone calls and emails with questions about our work, so we thought that this month, we’d take time to answer some of your most frequently asked questions—we hope you’ll enjoy, and maybe even learn a little about what we do here in Mexico!
Where are you located?
We are just off of Highway 8 – look for the big, yellow billboard just before you cross the bridge heading into town…the one that says, “Dog Food Needed” (and that is the truth—we definitely always need it).
What are your hours?
We are open to the public every day of the year…weekends and holidays included, from 10am-4pm.
What are your adoption fees?
Our Mexi dogs need homes, and that is the priority. We do not have an established adoption fee for our Mexico babies, but because we operate on donations only, we always appreciate them. We sometimes have wonderful adopters whose funds are limited, and that’s ok. Other times, we’ll have adopters who will make astoundingly generous donations to our cause when they adopt, and those donations help us offset the expenses of our operation.
How many dogs do you have at the rescue?
Our rescue consists of about three acres of doggie goodness, with space for up to 400 dogs. We adopt hundreds of dogs out each year, but for every one that leaves for their happily ever after, there’s another one that needs to be saved. We are almost always full.
If we adopt a dog from Barb’s Dog Rescue, what is the process to bring him/her over the border?
Great question! We give you everything you need to bring your new pet back to the United States—vaccines and chip documentation, harnesses and leashes, and a blanket or dog bed if you need it- and we will help you complete the online CDC form while you’re here. No printing needed, just have it available on your phone if you’re asked.
What is your biggest need?
If it has to do with dogs, we need it! Food is, of course, the biggest priority (dry & canned, chicken is best. We also need toys, beds, treats, harnesses, leashes and collars, cleaning supplies, potty pads, etc. Everything we have comes from donations, and we are grateful to have all of it!
What kind of dog is this? How big do you think they’ll get?
All of our dogs who are ready for adoption are listed on our website, and we’ll do our best to help estimate breed, size, etc. But you want to know the truth? We’re guessing! Our adopters are sometimes in for big surprises when they do DNA testing!
Do you need volunteers?
We always need them. Surprisingly, we don’t have many, but gosh, we sure would love to have them! If you’d like to spend a little time with our dogs, please email us: From treat-giving to helping prepare food and meds, we will match you with a “job” that won’t feel anything like work!
Are you opening a rescue in Arizona?
Barb’s Dog Rescue, after an almost two-year search, has found the perfect place in Peoria. Our sister location is coming soon!
