Did you know that the American Legion…yeah, that American Legion…had a post here in Peñasco? Well, it does! We also have a recently chartered chapter of the American Legion Riders (ALR) here too!

With so many people visiting Puerto Peñasco, it might be a good thing to know, don’t you think? In the interest of being informational, you do not need to be a member to visit the legion. We have a full bar and kitchen with drinks and meals served for very reasonable prices, and many activities that visitors might enjoy such as bingo and karaoke. Stop by for a drink and some storytelling and socializing!

We at the legion are involved in the community as well and have worked in conjunction with the “Empty Bowls” charitable program to help feed the less fortunate members of our community. We also worked hard on providing Christmas gifts for local children (especially after the border closure last year), recent food drives, as well as supporting Operation 22 through our ‘Cinco de Gringo’ party at the post (PTSD and veteran suicide prevention) among many other charitable works…

During Bike Week, the ALR hosted a barbecue at the post for member riders and non-member riders alike. We expect to make this an annual event during Bike Week. Remember, you do not need to be a member or a veteran to come by and enjoy yourself at the post. If you are a vet, you know the post is a place where you are always welcomed and can come to enjoy the camaraderie of your fellow veterans. If you are a rider, stop on by, and if you’ve got your bike here “Let’s Ride” somewhere!

As this column moves forward, I will try to be proactive and reporting events and happenings. If you are a vet and live here or visit regularly, please consider joining.  Since you won’t see this until June, you might want to know that as legionaires, we recently celebrated Memorial Day by visiting the local cemetery and placing American Flags on the graves of seven deceased veterans there.

Please follow us on Facebook at: American Legion 15 Mexico to keep up with the latest happenings. We hope to see you at the post!
