As I sit down to write my column this month, I’m struck by how our beloved Rocky Point continues to evolve, even as the world around us changes. In my years of chronicling life in this seaside paradise, one constant remains – there’s always something new to discover here. This month, I thought I’d share some fresh foodie spots that have caught my attention as I wandered through town.
A Taste of Asia at HANTA
Are you in the mood for sushi? Rocky Point’s culinary scene continues to diversify, and one standout addition is HANTA. This gem offers everything from teriyaki chicken to delicious salmon, plus ramen and udon soups alongside creative sushi rolls. The atmosphere strikes that perfect balance between casual and upscale that we treasure here in Puerto Peñasco. Next time you’re craving Asian flavors with a seaside twist, HANTA is absolutely worth checking out.

Mr. Fish Taco: Same Great Spot, New Surprises
Can you believe Mr. Fish Taco has changed? This beloved spot by the sea, right beside JJ’s Cantina in Cholla Bay, has undergone quite the transformation. The first thing you’ll notice is they’ve cemented everything, so you’re no longer sitting in the sand while enjoying your meal. They’ve also expanded and added a new buzzer system to let you know when your food is ready.
According to my friends who consider themselves corn dog connoisseurs, the corn dogs here are exceptional. Of course, they still serve all the usual favorites – fried fish tacos, shrimp, and fried fish. For those of us watching our waistlines (or at least pretending to), you can now upgrade any dish to have your seafood grilled instead of fried.

Perhaps the best part remains the spectacular high-tide view of Cholla Bay. There’s something magical about enjoying fresh seafood while watching the waves roll in – truly an experience not to be missed.
Coffee, Car Wash, and… Pizza?
In a delightful example of Rocky Point ingenuity, there’s a new coffee shop in town where multitasking is the name of the game. Located just off Fremont Boulevard, this innovative spot offers the unique combination of car wash services alongside your morning caffeine fix. If that weren’t enough, they’ve also added a salad bar and fresh juice bar, pizza, bagels and pasta to their diverse menu. Only in Rocky Point would someone think of combining these three distinct services, and somehow, it works perfectly! Yes, they have a drive-in, and they say they deliver.

Hot Food at a gas station?
On the way into town make sure you go to the gas station that serves a donut hamburger. Yes, you heard me right you can get the hamburger on donut but you can also get French fries, chicken tenders among other hot food. The menu offers a variety. Look for the hot food sign on the way into town on the left-hand side at the gas station.

Right across from Sam’s Club
If you’re going to Sam’s Club, look across the street and you’ll see two new places, one called Foodie Imports, which has a variety of things from the United States. I know you’re probably coming from the USA, but for those of us who spend the majority of their time down here it is nice to go to a place and find your favorites without having to bring it across the border…. and if you like desserts, in the same vicinity is a new place offering delicious sweets. Newer place. Bianshbrunette. Check OUT their Facebook pages.

As we look ahead to June, the anticipation builds for the Mexican circus that will soon arrive, Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers along with at least a dozen other great bands will be bringing our town to life with music and rock ‘n’ roll during Circus Mexicus. The streets will pulse with energy, restaurants will fill with hungry visitors, and our community will once again showcase its musical spirit.
It seems that even as the world continues its sometimes-chaotic dance, Rocky Point remains steadfast in its commitment to growth and new experiences. There’s comfort in knowing that while some things change – new restaurants opening, old favorites evolving – the heart of our community stays the same.
So, the next time you find yourself wondering where to dine in Rocky Point, consider stepping outside your comfort zone. Try the sushi at HANTA, revisit the improved Mr. Fish Taco, or multitask with coffee, pizza and a car wash. Our little seaside town continues to surprise and delight, one meal at a time.
Until next month, enjoy the sunshine, the sea breeze, and all the new flavors Rocky Point has to offer.
