I am sure that many of you readers are familiar with our local American Legion Post MX15 and if you are not, you should be!! This organization is one more example of a hidden jewel in our Rocky Point community. This is an organization that is always reaching out to help wherever needed. Yes, the Legion hosts bingo three days a week, and yes, the Legion hosts wonderful holiday “potluck” dinners, and yes, the Legion packs up mail for many veterans. The American Legion always recognizes our Veterans, but did you know what they organized and pulled off last Christmas? Let me tell you…six pickup trucks and one flat bed delivered 139 food bags, 400 toys, warm blankets and clothes to residents of Rocky Point. All of the toys were donated, wrapped and marked with an approximate age to hand out to the children. Santa Claus even participated…Thank you Santa Berry! The joy of Christmas giving was shared by so many! A great big THANK YOU to Elaine “Bee” Murphy, post Commander and Danny Anderson facilities manager for recognizing the needs in our community and addressing the needs!

If you have not visited the American Legion, drop in for a meal or a cerveza, they have the best bartender in town – Juan. I think you will find the environment most inviting and friendly. The Legion is located in the Baja Hotel & Cantina at the base of Whale Hill. Drop in and also get involved in their charitable activities. I can’t wait to see what kind of activities are planned for 2024!

In the month of February, the Legion is hosting a Valentine’s Dinner of steak and shrimp. It will be on Valentines Day at 4pm. The cost is $15 per person, and you need to make reservations four days in advance. So, invite your sweetheart or maybe just a good friend and enjoy a Valentines dinner at the Legion, I promise you it will be good! You can reach the Legion at 638-388-8841.
