Welcome summer visitors! The town is busy with happy vacationers, and it looks like we’re gearing up to have a big summer, which is always great news for our local economy. June is perfect for spending time out on the water and if you haven’t been to Bird Island, I highly recommend taking the entire family out there to snorkel with the sea lions. You can also kayak, swim or just float around – it is absolutely one of the best experiences summer has to offer and there are many charters available. June also brings the annual Circus Mexicus musical festival put on by Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers. This event not only brings tons of people to Peñasco, but also a variety of music. Guaranteed the best (and least expensive) concert ticket you will buy this year. Puerto Peñasco is becoming quite the music festival destination with the Country Bash, the Songwriter’s Festival, January Jam and Circus Mexicus! Even when these big events aren’t going on, you are guaranteed to be able to find live music somewhere in town, every single night of the week.

I had a wonderful trip down to Santo Tomas and the boutique vineyard that’s close by, Viñedos la Bonita. Santo Tomas is seeing tons of growth but remains so peaceful and is absolutely gorgeous. I was able to tour some of the custom homes currently under construction and…WOW! These places are absolutely amazing. After the tour, I headed over to Viñedos la Bonita to check it out. Another WOW! This vineyard is awesome and is literally out in the middle of nowhere. Full write-up about my trip for July, but until then, if you want to take a day trip, I highly recommend both Santo Tomas and Viñedos la Bonita.

I’d like to welcome Jodi Johnson as one of our new Contributing Writer’s. Her second article appears in this month’s edition and we’re looking forward to reading many more. We also have a couple more in the pipeline and hope to feature them in July.

Congrats to Chef Luca and Karina and the entire staff at Pane e Vino who celebrate their anniversary this month. Hope to see you all there. Rey del Mar, the Pirate Ship is also celebrating their anniversary this year. Their entertaining sunset cruises are great for the entire family – and inexpensive fun. A final congrats to Muebles Coloniales on opening their 2nd location on Benito Juarez, right next to Auto Zone – it’s BIG and has lots of space to showcase their beautiful furniture.

The Sonoran Resort Group had a successful lottery last month for their newest “Star” – the Sonoran Star, which will be located on Sandy Beach and consist of five towers. The project looks beautiful. Hopefully we’ll get a full report from Jim Ringquist for July.

Some bad news came about as vacationers were travelling down the Friday of Memorial Day Weekend. CBP handed out slips of paper to people in line letting them know that our border WILL NOT be offering extended hours on the Mondays following the holiday weekends. The Lukeville/Sonoyta border will still be open (as of this writing) until 10PM on the Fridays of the holiday weekends we’ve listed on the Events Page and in the filler ad in this edition. No one had any notice – from the city on down. So, there’s that.

Don’t forget to bring down some gently used blankets, towels, clothes, shoes, toys, etc. if you’ve been doing some summer cleaning. We’re always happy to receive them at our office and give them to the needy.

Hope everyone has a super June, and we’ll see you at the beach!
