As summer winds down, so does the busy tourist season but statistics show that Puerto Peñasco maintains its position as the most frequently visited destination in all northwest Mexico, making it a destination for real estate and business investment.

A great example of this was 4th of July weekend which typically marks the vacation period for Mexican tourists. This year we saw a spike in travel both by car and now by air as the flight originating out of Tijuana, Baja California have commenced. Yes, the airport is now open and a round-trip flight to and from Tijuana to Puerto Peñasco will cost approximately 3,500 pesos or $175 USD. The flight includes transfer from Puerto Peñasco to the airport, as well as luggage allowance of up to 25 kilos per person.

The Fourth of July weekend translated into 89% hotel occupancy rate or 37 million pesos for the city’s hotel and service sectors and its no wonder why Puerto Peñasco remains the number one destination in northwest Mexico because its beaches are now ranked as the best beaches in the entire country!

Parts of Sandy Beach from Playa Bonita Hotel to Las Palomas as well as 2300 meters of coastline at Islas del Mar are certified clean beaches and for the second year in a row, Puerto Peñasco received the international, “Blue Flag” certification granted by the Foundation for Environmental Education in Mexico. The Blue Flag makes our coastline the only coast in the State of Sonora as having met the environmental and sustainable guidelines required for international distinction.

Overall, the first half of 2022 has been a success with hotel occupancy rates averaging 42% representing revenue of over 1.68 million pesos based on average expenses per visitor according to the Puerto Peñasco Convention and Visitors Bureau or OCV.

The OCV said that the activation of this aerial connectivity will shorten distances for new tourism opportunities and open business markets wishing to take advantage of reduced travel times. This in turn, will translate into longer stays in this port, which offers the cleanest and warmest beaches in northwestern Mexico, the desert and its dunes, the Pinacate Reserve, significant hotel infrastructure, great cuisine, quality service, and many places to explore. This is a win/win for the city and will help to expand our tourism industry and real estate economy.
