Feliz Marzo, Rocky Point!!! Well, I was about to say I think we skipped winter this year, but finally, in late February (sorry bosses, I may have been a hair late with my article…consistency 😊), we had some chillier days and evenings and some strong winds. But, I am sure by the time you are reading this; you’ll be soaking up some Rocky Point rays at your favorite swim-up bar or chilling out on the beach somewhere in town. I had a really fun late January and February with some travels to Gasparilla in Tampa…it’s basically Mardi Gras with pirate ships and beads and a whole lot of fun…thank you, Donna and Ange, Mintz, for hosting a fabulous week of celebration. After returning, I made another trip to the East Coast of America to Jersey to see my dad and brother, which is always a good time! Ditto on your hospitality…so fun!

So, it is time to meet a relatively new resident of Rocky Point…Ronnie Buchholz!

Marco~ So tell us a little about yourself, where are you from, and where did you grow up?

Ronnie~ Well, I grew up in the Bay Area of California, and I left at 24 for Nevada for about 20 years. I later relocated to Phoenix, where I continued working in my commercial and residential construction business.

Marco~ Nice, I hear you rattling on the phone about a lot of projects you have going on. When was your first time to Rocky Point and your first thoughts of Peñasco?

Ronnie~ I loved it! It was back in 2008 when my kids were only 2 and 4 years old. We stayed at Bella Sirena on Sandy Beach. My kids loved it as well, and I brought my father-in-law, mother-in-law, and cousins along as well. Everyone loved the town, and it was just starting to really grow back then.

Marco~ Indeed, I remember it well. I think it was 20 years ago when I owned a condo at the same place…Bella Sirena. I believe I purchased it in 2006. When did you move to Rocky Point, and what was the catalyst that made you move?

Ronnie~ I moved to Rocky Point about a year and a half ago. I had been coming more and more to Rocky Point over the years, and when my kids were finally grown, I realized I could make the move. So, for almost two years, I have been traveling back and forth from Phoenix to Rocky Point to cover business in America when it is needed, but basically, I am here 😊! Like many people, so much of a job can be done remotely today, so it is a great life to be able to live here at the beach!

Marco~ Oh, don’t I know…front to back! Everywhere I go, there seems to be a cast of characters that, after traveling around the globe, I know you would be hard-pressed to find friendships like we all share here! What are some of your favorite restaurants and bars in town?

Ronnie~ Well, I love Bottom’s Up, Leo’s Bar, Saludos, Gatos, Los Shakas, Mare Blu, and Pane e Vino. I like to hang where the quality of food and atmosphere are great. Most of the servers and bartenders in town are like family to me and are my close friends.

Marco~ A close friend that’s a bartender…hmmm…sounds like a winner to me! What are some of the other things you like to do in Rocky Point?

Ronnie~ I like to go on long runs on the beach and go for walks up Whale Hill. I like to work out and choose the Spot Gym to stay in shape. Spot Gym has good prices and equipment for working out and has good hours of operation, so it works well for me. I have been out boating on the Sea of Cortez and LOVED it! I also enjoy helping people in need, especially friends, when the duty calls. I also enjoy meeting new friends wherever I go in town.

Marco~ Con seguridad! It seems wherever you go in town, you walk out with a new friend you made along the way. Thank you for all you do for others, Ronnie. It does not go unnoticed! What are your favorite times of the year in Rocky Point?

Ronnie~ I would say Spring and Fall, but I really like it all. It does seem to be more temperate in the Spring and Fall, so I would choose those times. I really didn’t have issues with the summer humidity except maybe in September.

Marco~ Yes, I would say it seems like August and the earlier weeks of September are a bit steamy, but hey, that means TRAVEL TIME 😊! Where do you see Rocky Point in 10 years’ time from now?

Ronnie~ I see it evolving into an even bigger tourist destination than even now, with more and better infrastructure. We already have a ton of events throughout the year, but I see that growing even more. I could see more golf courses and other recreational things to do coming our way.

Marco~ Well, Scotty Pea would be happy to hear about the golf courses for sure. I may have to break out my putter as well! What are some of the biggest changes you have seen since first coming to town 18 years ago?

Ronnie~ I would say the quality of the resorts and restaurants. The quality of food and food choices has really stepped up, as well as the quality of events to check out. I have always felt very safe in Rocky Point, wherever I go. The newer, bigger stores like Walmart offer more variety, as well as the new Caffenio coffee bar in town.

Marco~ Yes, change is good when it comes with better quality. I, too, look forward to even more changes down the road. Anything else you want our Rocky Point Times readers to know?

Ronnie~ Rocky Point is a safe vacation destination and a place to call home. The roads have become better, and I travel back and forth across the border often with no border hassles. I am super happy with my decision to move to Rocky Point!

Thank you for your time and input, Ronnie. For those looking for a change, looking to meet new friends, looking for a more relaxed chill vibe, or simply looking to learn a new culture and language, Rocky Point awaits your arrival! So, here’s to one and all for a super FUN and happy SPRING BREAK. I look forward to carrying on with you all, and be sure to bring your sunny self and bright smile along for the ride!
