~ Russ and Naomi Black

Karen Stewart @ The Sewing Lady

Participating at the Mermaid’s Market: I started coming to the Mermaid Market several years ago and then selling at the Mermaid’s market 2 years ago.

Name something about the Mermaid’s Market that you enjoy: The vendors at the market are very friendly and offer a wide range of products. I have many repeat customers, both local and visitors that enjoy coming by to see new items.

Do you create/make everything that you sell? No. I have some items that are hard to find or expensive in Mexico. I price them reasonably. [For instance,] I sell fully cleaned and refurbished sewing machines at affordable prices. My heart is warmed when someone can buy an item that thrills them. I sell dolls that have been “recycled”, repaired and cleaned and I make doll clothes and other items that are at the booth.

How long have you lived in Puerto Peñasco? My husband and I have been coming to Puerto Peñasco for 10 years. We split our time between the US and Mexico.

What is something you like about living here? It’s a “laid-back” place, very relaxed, the pace is slower than the US. The weather is great. We always see friends of ours when we are out on errands. Both of us are highly involved with mission work; my husband is the Associate Pastor at El Buen Samaritano in San Rafael.

Tell us something “interesting” about yourself: Sewing has always been a passion for me. I learned to sew as a young girl and took sewing courses in high school. I enjoy making doll clothes, aprons, stuffed animals, hats and other items.

Do you have any other location, or do you sell online? The Mermaid’s Market is my only outlet. I do special orders and sewing repairs. I also repair sewing machines.

Beth & Doug @ Card Creation Therapy

Participating at the Mermaid’s Market: This is our 4th year with the Mermaid Market!

Name something about the Mermaid’s Market that you enjoy: We enjoy seeing all the people and the atmosphere of it all. It’s a great way to spend the day! Russ & Naomi do an amazing job pulling these events together!

Do you create/make everything that you sell? We do create/make everything we sell. There are a lot of pieces that go into creating our very unique cards. Thankfully, my husband is very supportive and is my #1 employee! He spends a great deal of time helping cut things out so I can pull it all together and create our very unique greeting cards.

How long have you lived in Puerto Peñasco? We have lived in Puerto Peñasco for the last 4 years and had been weekend warriors for 23 years prior! We love living here!

What is something you like about living here? The people are so kind and really make you feel like family. We love the culture, shopping and the laid-back way of life. There’s nothing better than the beautiful beach and amazing sunsets.

Tell us something “interesting” about yourself: My creativity came from my mom who was very talented! I have always enjoyed crafting. In school, I took advantage of every possible art class! I have worked as a Credit Union Branch Manager, in accounting, mortgage processing and as a contract administrator for a major home builder in Phoenix. There I began a small (side) scrapbook business. Finally In 2017, my best friend (and cheerleader), Sherri gave me the encouragement & support to start making greeting cards – and Card Creation Therapy was born!

Do you have any other location or do you sell online? Currently, no. If you are looking for a unique card for most any occasion, please reach out to us on Facebook: Card Creation Therapy or email at: cardcreationtherapy@lannette

Debira Ann Wright-Turner @ Puerto Peñasco Scouts Troop 002 (San Rafael)

Name something about the Mermaid’s Market that you enjoy: The Market provides the Scouts an opportunity to learn to sell and provide customer service.

What is something you like about living here? The people and culture. The community bands together to help one another.

Tell us something “interesting” about yourself: Rick and I have had businesses in Tucson since 1980’s! Rick had a company here (American Home Services) for 5 years. He closed the business in 2019 but, occasionally will do a job here. When we moved to Peñasco, we helped to establish the Living Stones Community Center in San Rafael. We are both still involved. The center hosts our Scout Troop.

How long have you lived in Puerto Peñasco? 5 years

What is something you like about living here? There is much too much to list! But the sea-life and nature we get to experience is the best.

Tell us something “interesting” about yourself: Since becoming full time residents we are pretty boring! But we love our current simple life living by the sea. It inspires the pieces created and the treasures we seek to sell at the Mermaid’s Market.

Do you have any other location, or do you sell online? We are exclusive to the Mermaid’s Market. We are on Facebook: Marvy Blue and Instagram: marvybluedesigns. If you see something you like message us. We are available for private showings at bachelorette parties or any other events where you think our items would be fun!
