While I am not ready to hang up my fly fishing gear, I have noticed fly fishing buddies that are my age and older prepare for the day they can no longer get on the water. Donating fishing gear that has taken a lifetime to accumulate, to those that need it, or taking a bucket list destination fishing trip, while they are still able. Fly fishing is a lifetime pursuit, I have known many fly fishers in their 80’s and 90’s that still enjoy the tug of a fish on the end of the line. I received a phone call from an old fishing buddy who is planning on hip replacement, but he thinks this may be his last Rocky Point trip. For those of you who have never fished Puerto Peñasco, or maybe you have fished it, enjoyed it, but have been too busy to get back, fall is the very best time to fly fish Puerto Peñasco. Most folks have a limited number of days to fish, and Rocky Point is too good to pass up fishing here.

The water is comfortable in the fall, the fish are active, and the weather is generally better this time of year. October and November are my favorite months to fish this bit of paradise. Fly fishing gear you should have: eight weight fly rod, deep sinking fly lines, and Clouser Minnows are the fly of choice. You can catch more fish if you have a pontoon boat, or kayak, but you can still get fish from shore. The food, lodging, and people that you encounter make Puerto Peñasco a bargain. I have fished Rocky Point many times and I am always looking forward to visiting again. Staying home and not enjoying a good time is a lousy plan! Eating, drinking, fishing, laughing, listening to live music, and enjoying friends is my idea of a good time.
