February is usually a very busy month for our Puerto Peñasco Rotary Club; but like so many events in our community the Lukeville border closing has affected our normal routine. As I write this article a decision has not been made concerning our Fish Bowl event. I am in hope we will still be able to make it happen; however, it does not look promising.
After the hardship of lack of business for our outstanding restaurant partners it is very difficult to ask them to participate in this charitable event. The Fish Bowl is our Rotary fund-raising event and has proven to be one of the most attended and loved events of the year; it will be missed by all of us.
As we always try to find a “silver lining” in everything ours is to focus on the planning of our district conference which will be held in May of this year. Our Rotary District 4011 is combining efforts with Phoenix District 5495 to host, here in Rocky Point, a joint district conference. This event should bring maybe a thousand Rotarians to our community from Mexico and the United States and will give us an opportunity to showcase what Puerto Peñasco has to offer. We are presently working on scheduling speakers and putting together the agenda for this event which will be held from May 2nd to May 5th, 2024. We are calling this event “Two Nations, Two District: One Rotary”.
More about the conference, it will be held at the spacious Centro de Convenciones in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora. Early bird registration special is $275 dlls. Conference registration includes all conference activities at the convention center and all conference meals.
