Wow, the best season is upon us. Feliz Noviembre Rocky Point! Wow, it’s a bit hard to believe that the holidays are within reach which means more days off and more days to enjoy our beaches………woo hoo! After taking the longest time off from my condo in Rocky Point due to travels, I for one am hunkering down for the holidays. I have a few friends coming down for part of the holiday but mostly I will enjoy my local friends, beach time and of course my little sanctuary at our roof top pool. For anyone who was at the Grand Opening of Wingman at Encantame Resorts over the first weekend in October, what a blast eh? Great food, band and cocktails……… I am not sure they expected so many people to come but they did manage their service levels. Note to self….um no names mentioned…….when you are getting ready to leave town for a bit, check what is left in your car by your friends. I found some interesting things in my car after some friends drove it. Thankfully, the police and border patrol were as oblivious to it as I was. But it is good to go through your items before leaving and be sure you are not breaking any of the laws in either country that are outlined well here in the Rocky Point Times. Before I break out with my interview with this month’s CELEBRITY GUEST STAR, if you have any pics, ideas, promos or just feedback on a past or future article, you can easily email me at mpaliscak@altitudehomeloans.com. 😊
If you haven’t made it over to Bottoms Up (Bottoms Up Yacht Club), you need to check it out! It is in the Mirador area and easily accessible with GPS at Avenue Chihuahua or by calling +52 638-688-1617. I recently sat down with Danny Davis, the managing partner, to find out what is the rave about Bottom’s Up and to learn a bit more our local bar and restaurant.
Marco: Nice to see you again, Danny. Can you share some insight into Bottom’s Up?
Danny: For sure, we opened for business on September first of 2023 and recently celebrated our first anniversary. We are open every day at 9am and stay open until late PM.
Marco: Wow, 9AM….I guess I have had a morning or two like that….nothing like some balcony Chardonnay to start off your morning eh Jozey and Tomas? Please share your employee’s names, Danny.
Danny: As bartenders, we have Alejandra (Ale), Gabby, Kelly and Cynthia and as our Chef, we have Lea Favorite.
Marco: Well, hats off to the whole crew….they are super nice and provide excellent service. Shout out to Lea because every meal I have had at Bottom’s Up has been REALLY good! Just like Chappell Roan sings, I have even had some food HOT TO GO. What are your best sellers for drinks and food?
Danny: We have daily specials available….one of these is the egg roll special which is a big seller. Our hamburgers are also one of the biggest sellers. For drinks, it would definitely be Bloody Mary’s, Mimosa’s and coffee drinks.
Marco: The hamburgers are fabuloso and I must say the staff is super fun and it always seems like we are hanging out with our good friends even though they are working. What games and events does Bottom’s Up offer? I know you have the pool table……..
Danny: Yes, we also have giant Jenga, Foosball, Pop Shot Basketball and outside we have a fire pit area with a stage for a band or an event. It has not started yet, but we are going to have a band each Friday night starting the first Friday in November. We also have outside TV’s with palapas and fans.
Marco: Oh, who doesn’t love live music…….we will be back! What do you think stands out at Bottom’s Up with so many options for places to hang out, meet friends, toss a few back and have some good eats?
Danny: I would say first of all, consistency. We are open 7 days a week at 9 AM. We are a neighborhood bar……we are like a community center where everyone seems to know each other, or they come in and feel at home and meet new friends. We have reasonable prices and a friendly atmosphere which is conducive to work meetings, playing Mexican Train Dominoes or meeting up with your buddies. Our staff knows you by name and you feel at home…..not just like a one time tourist. We also have both Spanish and English personnel on board.
Marco: Well, if they speak another language than that, have them come talk with me. Most people don’t understand me anyway 😊. What is your favorite part you like about the bar?
Danny: Definitely the customers and being part of a neighborhood and a part of their lives. I love getting to know them and making them feel at home. I am super grateful for the community and how they have supported us at Bottom’s Up! THANK YOU!!!
Marco: For sure, gratitude is a wonderful thing! What is your favorite part about Rocky Point?
Danny: My family has been coming to Rocky Point since the 60’s. I have been coming since I was a baby in the 80’s and when I turned 18, I would come down with a bunch of buddies and camp on the beach. One summer, we decided to come for a week, and we stayed for three months! I always knew I loved it here. I am a big Jimmy Buffett fan and have a Margaritaville tattoo on my back. The day we opened the bar was the day that Jimmy Buffett passed away. My Grand Dad loved Rocky Point and unfortunately died in a plane crash trying to rush to get to someone who needed emergency care. When I moved to Rocky Point, I was the same age as my Grand Dad when he passed so between Jimmy Buffett and my Grand Dad, I think it was a sign of “passing the torch”.
Marco: Wow, that’s a totally memorable vibe to take away with you. What are some of your favorite bars to go to when you are not working?
Danny: I like Boo Bar, Leo’s Bar, Pithaya, Manny’s Beach Club and many others.
Marco: YEP! I know them all, good, solid choices! Anything else you would like to share with the Rocky Point Times readers?
Danny: I know I am very lucky and blessed to have the following of this amazing community in Rocky Point. I walk to work with my dog Mosa who is also our greeter. We are all about good attitudes and vibes. If you are interested in scheduling an event, you can call the bar or email me at pony602boy@gmail.com.
Marco: Thank you very much Danny for your time and I look forward to seeing you again soon……..all the best to your continued success!!!!
I have been writing and doing interviews for the Rocky Point Times for about 16 years now and I must say that Danny Davis is definitely one of the most kind and down to earth guys I have ever interviewed for the paper. I think we are all lucky to have Bottom’s Up as part of our community and especially Danny and his staff!
I sincerely hope everyone has a fantastic November and a super Thanksgiving. GOBBLE GOBBLE!!!!
Don’t wait until the fourth Thursday in November, to sit with family and friends to give thanks. Make every day a day of Thanksgiving! — Charmaine J. Forde
