Feliz Mayo Rocky Point! I hope everyone’s spring is off to an amazing start and your Easter season was a “good egg” 😊. As of this writing, I am looking forward to our celebrations in town for Semana Santa. Some of you may have seen the check point as you are coming into town about a kilometer before the overpass bridge. If you are stopped, they do a pretty thorough search for items you may not be aware you cannot have. Word to the wise, just because you bought some pharmaceuticals in a drug store (aka farmacia) in Mexico does not mean that it is legal. Even though the pharmacy does not ask you for a prescription, it is up to you to have the prescription with you if you are searched and they find your pharmaceuticals. It is just a time hassle and usually around a $200 fine. So, heads up to all to shop wisely and if you are purchasing pharmaceuticals in Mexico, that is fine, just be sure you have your prescription to back it up…..otherwise, you will end up like “a friend I know” and a little poorer than before. Although “my friend” did pay the fine, he received the pharmaceuticals back……overall, it is most likely just not worth the time and expense.
In April, I visited Nashville, Tennessee to celebrate my daughter, Via Maria’s birthday along with her girlfriends from TCU and 20 friends for a bachelor party. The vibe reminded me so much of Rocky Point with such an array of talented musicians and artists at every bar or restaurant we went to. Apparently about a year ago, there was an incident with Morgan Wallen tossing a chair off of a six-story building at Chief’s, a bar on the main drag, Broadway. So, who knew while filming a little jig with my friends that lifting a chair up can get you tossed out. Well, now we all know…….chairs are to remain with four legs on the ground. Sheesh, how fun is that?!!! Oh well, lesson learned! It was awesome to see our Jessie Masica (formerly of Bella Sirena) while I was in Rocky Point. She has relocated to Nashville and is currently an RN and doing great. It is always super to see my “sobrina”. The southern food in Nashville was also down-to-earth home cooking everywhere we went, reminding me of our own delicious restaurants that we have here. We rented a “party wagon” with about 45 revelers on board and toured the streets of Nashville. That was super fun, and we met people from all around the globe. I am usually not much of a museum person as sometimes I feel kidnapped when I am on a tour (ADHD kicks in 😊) but we did go to the Country Music Hall of Fame and thankfully it was a self-guided tour. It was really cool to see and hear of all of the artist’s work over the generations. They even had things like Elvis’ gold-plated Cadillac Coupe Deville, Taylor Swift’s guitar and Oliver Closeoff’s costumes. Overall, super fun time….. just keep those legs on your chairs on the ground 😊!!!
As the weather warms up in Arizona and other southwestern states, expect our beaches to become more and more popular. The ocean temps, the cool breezes, the smells of suntan lotion and the salty air all combine to make each day an awesome one. I am super excited to have my 5 cousins from Slovakia down to Rocky Point with me in the third week of April….update and pics to follow. They have never been to America or Mexico so it should be very interesting to see their take on things. I am sure they will love our food, weather, beaches, hospitality and FUN VIBES!
One thing I have been noticing more and more around town are the cool places where our local artists are selling their artwork. I found some really cool places not just at the usual places like the Malecon, Shack’s 5th Avenue or Mermaid’s Market. I have seen artwork for sale in many rando parking lots around town. I even purchased one from my friend Yaya who does amazing work. I was heading out of the rest room over at Leo’s Bar and noticed a side door which led out to a parking lot where they were selling all sorts of artwork. Great find…..thank you Tomas! And to all those bead bracelet makers…….keep ‘em coming. I am a big fan and every time I head out of town, I buy some to give to my new amigos I meet along the way. What a better way to make a new friend than to share a friendship bracelet with them….a friend with beads is a friend indeed😊!
Well, I look forward to some R n R coming up this month and especially my family coming to visit us. I am sure they will love Rocky Point as we all do!!! And let us all remember, keep your face always toward the sunshine – and shadows will fall behind you!
ADIOS AMIGOS
GOD BLESS
Marco
